This is a motor issue problem.

My father has a MTD 20" Snow thrower Model 262. I replaced the spark plug and use ether can spray for the plug (and the motor in the spark plug hole) . It works only last a few seconds because of the ether. So, I checked the carb carburetor, and it does not have bowl drain - just seal or cover the whole cab. I have not tried to unscrew the cab because it is so cold outside for me to fix it. I asked him if he put some fresh gas/oil in it before he started it, he said yes. What should I next?

Good question! How old is it? I haven't started mine as of yet. Waiting for big blast of snow which should have been here long time ago. I do NOT plan to plow my driveway til at least 8 inches of snow on ground, and that is WHEN I will start the blower. All because I have 4x4 vehicles! :-D

Oh boy. You gotta to make sure that your machine is working before the storm hit your area.

His snow thrower is 6 years old, and no rust as a clean condition.

Oh ha! Mine is about 4 years old.
Probably it needs serious tune up or something. Since it can fire up with ether. Have you ever drain the gas in the spring time? Or was that gas from last year?
Gas that is more than 6 months old becomes very stale and harder to fire when the temperature drops.
Also, leaving gas in carbs thoughout summer time can build gum and clog the needle in the carb chamber which would disable the engine. So, try use gummout to clean them out.

carbs..

if you spray staring fluid, and it runs for a few seconds..it needs the carb cleaned out... becouse the old gas dried out and cloged your pilot jet.
so take off the carb. disasemble...take off all rubber parts..and drop in to a jar of carb cleaner... if you are snowed in ..paint thinner may work... junst needs to sit for about 6 hoursto clean out the carb.

add STA-BIL to your gas when you store any gas running thing for a few months.. good luck!

Thats my thinking too. I advise against adjusting any carb because rarely they need adjustment. If done adjustment, then found out carb is clogged, it is much difficult to go back to orignal setting. So its easier to clean out first and make sure everything is up to maintenace requirement. Then you'd know what to do next.

Here are two pictures on the manual about his snowthrower. He told me that it needs a special tool to unscrew the carb.

Special tools? maybe it was NOT intended to open by average person like you.
Once you mess up the carb setting, it is more difficult to go back. What you need to do is clean up the carb, use gummout, open the air filter cover
take the foam out then spray gummout in the chamber. That is to clean gum out.

Okay. I'll work on the machine tomorrow. I have to think of where can I able to fix it because it is shitty cold outside. ...And the oil/gas is in the tank.

The owners must test thier snow blowers late summer/early fall. If they are over two or three years old, must change the oil and gas.....

If you don't, look what happened to webexplorer and DoofusMama.....

woo wee ! i love seeing 4x4s on snow roads... ;)

i am curious about the individual state laws. i know colorado's law. does your state require the tires chains or snow tires for a purpose to run on snow/icy roads ? If you dont have them on ur truck, wud you get a ticket ?

sorry it is actually off topic. :dunno:

Think twice, snowplower cost expensive... and have hard time to find reasonable price 300 bux to less.. Mostly rest of all snowplower are 300+ over.. Too pricey!

That would be a great idea to get a truck plower. I will buy one next time. Now, I cannot fix my snow thrower. It is rainy and sleet of ice on my driveway. The roads now are very bad.

Some of you guys are bratting about your 4x4 plower. :pissed:
