When I'm in stores and they are calling for a supervisor or whateve over they ring like this bell and recently its been sounding really high pitched and sometimes it does hurt me, I'm wondering why this is? Is it that my implant settings are too high for me now?

Any advice?

Probably not great advice since I don't have CI, but I know Hear Again got some high frequency turned off and said she felt better.

This is why I wonder if high frequencies are really all that important. If they will cause me discomfort, why should I care to hear high frequencies?

Not every single person has discomfort at high frequencies. It does depend on the individual

Sounds like your MAP isn't right. I think you should call your audi. Hearing should never be uncomfortable.

Is the problem just recent? I can hear the bell but it's not loud.... But since you just said you got cold, It's probably the cold that affected your hearing sensivity. When you go to the store turn your sensivity down see how it goes until you cold is over then see how it goes without cold... if that doesn't improve perhaps seek for new mapping.

No, I got the problem weeks ago before my cold. I cannot do anything on my implant, al the controls have been turned off cos i dont use them

Yes. Ill see if the problem reoccurs. then if it does then ill go for mapping

DeafDude - there's a difference between hearing the high frequencies and whether it's too LOUD. Mine was too loud, so I had them lowered. I can still hear the high frequencies, but they're not as loud and I'm not as sensitive. There's a difference.

Deafteen90 - def go for a new map. I'm surprised that you don't have different programs on your processor for different situations.
Regardless - you may want to consider asking your Audiologist to do a NRT on you. It can determine which electrodes are functioning just fine, and which are overly sensitive. It's not a pleasant test. I had it done, and because of that one stupid electrode was overly sensitive on my nerve, so I had that turned off...since then, thing sounded much better.

Second test is to have a full beeping test. The audiologist should go through each electrode and do some sort of "comfort, threshold" type of levels. A couple of your electrodes may be getting a little wonky and may need to be lowered just a tad. I had that done too, and since then the high frequencies are not as loud.

Every time you feel something weird with your processors or map, ALWAYS go for a reMAP. It doesn't matter how long you've had it...what matters is what you want to hear, and what you don't want to hear. I've had about 30 different maps on my left (4 programs on one processor, so that's a lot of maps within a year, and I *still* need to go back)

Wish you best of luck!

What does the NRT involve? Because I think everytime i go to the hospital for my implant they do the nrt and the full beeping test.

Sorry, I do not have any advice other than trying a new map and mention it to your CI audiologist when you go for your new MAP. But I want to say I understand how that is like - there are several sounds that I definitely DO NOT like. Like the landline telephone ringing...that sound, I just really hate it. I've actually had to turn the ringer off since I never use it - it's my fiance's telephone for just in case of an emergency and neither of our cellphones (Sidekicks) are working. It...kind of grates on my brain.

Another is the toilet flushing - it isn't painful but it does overwhelm my brain.
