TCS and I were at The Wilds camp in Brevard, NC, area, Blue Ridge Mountains, from Tuesday until Friday. (Off the grid all that time--no cell phone or internet for me.)

On Wednesday, TCS and I hiked the mountain with a group to the zip line. It was a fairly steep hike during a light rain and mist. The autumn colors were still beautiful even though they were past peak. There are four waterfalls along the trail. We passed two them, and the third one is the one we zipped over.

We zipped out and then zipped back. It was a little misty out but I could still see the waterfall. The zip was fun but too quick.

That's me in the tan vest. (I felt so bulky with the multiple layers I was wearing--not used to that in SC. )

The hike along the trail to the zip line:

how awesome! That looks so cool. I'd love to do a zip line again. Only time I ever did one was back in college- freshman year for an activity through Discovery when we had to go through New Student Orientation. Loooooooved it.

Reba, in 82-83 I went with my Science teacher on a class field trip to Camp 40 Legends. We did everything from Hiking, zip lining, horse back riding and camping out in teepees that real native americans built. This was in November and cold out. We learned to survive off the land in the inclimate weather. It was so much fun.
I tried to find the place recently and found the owner has passed away and his wife doesnt want to run the camp anymore. It was a wonderful experience and I am sad that such a wonderful learning experience is shutting down for kids of the future. If I had a choice, I would run it.

Every morning we sat around a bon fire and the owner would ask questions, if we answered correctly we got to go in the mess hall and eat. Then once everyone got in to eat, he would come in and explain the days activities.
Rapelling was fun, we didnt have harnesses, we had the straps, had to properly wrap and tie knots and test them hooking up the gear.
Horseback riding was awesome, being I was used to breaking and training horses on my cousins farm, I got the honors to ride a blind horse with glass eyes named Marbels.
Learning to build and cook in the wild, I will never forget the experience and to this day it seems like it was yesterday.
It is nice to see that you and TCS had a wonderful outdoor experience, its a heathy lifestyle to enjoy the outdoors and connect with nature.

I think we did some rappelling too? hm no.... more like climbing trees, not rock wall faces (I don't know if wall climbing was a 'thing' when I was a lil sapling in '83..). Climbing up one of Gally's trees, the instructor said I was like a little monkey I did so well lol (of course I loved all of that...wonder why I never kept going with similar activities...:( )

:D Reba, love love the pictures - you guys look happy!
It's so beautiful there! When we traveled to Greenville SC some years ago we went through the Smokey Mnt/Blue Ridge area and it was just AWESOME.

I'd love to try zip lining sometime.
I'm so happy to see you had a good time and so great to share those pictures:hug:
