So today I have ANOTHER appointment with my audiologist to fix yet another issue with my aids. For the most part they are great, I went through months of tweeking and then I had to get a power upgrade because they were pushed to the max. And now the tweeking process had started all over and it is a bit annoying.
With the new power upgrade I think there might be something wrong with the receiver in the right aid. I can hear that it is on but sound seems like its not going through properly and I cannot hear at times and then out of the blue its like the sound was turned on. Has anyone else had this problem? I have had these since September and for the price I paid for them I just want them to work correctly. Other than that I don't have any real complaints.
I was kind of wondering though if these were the right choice for me in the long run as my hearing keeps dropping. And I question if my audi was just trying to make the sale on 2 really expensive aids as opposed to another model that has more gain. I love my audi and I hope he knows what is best.

It does sound as if that one receiver isn't working properly. Have your audi take a look at it. One possibility - does yours have a different button you can push for drowning out background noises or for telephone? Is it possible you had your buttons pushed on the wrong setting and not on the "normal" setting?

I just got back a little while ago and he adjusted a few things and they seem to be working a lot better. The "directional" setting was off the hook, lol So sounds would come and go to whatever I was hearing. I do have a button that changes the settings, and I know that wasn't the case, I can tell when they are changed and not only that I have a voice that talks to me when I change the setting.. Which is great because then I know which setting its on if I forget what I did, lol :giggle:

I wouldn't go around telling people you hear voices

Things have changed so much since I actually used HA's back in early 80's. Mine just basically amplified sounds..all it had was a volume control.

I'd like to get something "top-of-the-line" as well, but I want to make sure it's worth it.

Well I will tell you for the price I paid for these it was definitely worth it. They are amazing and the sound is so clear and crisp. I didn't know what I was missing out on before. The first day I got a hearing test done and found out how much loss I had I cried, the same day he put these aids on me, I cried again because I was hearing so much more. Its nice not having to fuss with volume control, every place I go adjusts to what my hearing is and I like that. I like that it has different settings and I also like that I get no feed back whatsoever with these. But make sure you do the research on a top of the line product before buying, but I can tell you that when you do decide, it is well worth it :)

Ah..the feedback. Thanks for the memories  That was a major reason why I just had it with the thing. Going to high-school was another. I was too stubborn and insecure, I guess, to keep using the blasted thing. It was a Beltone by the way. I'd much prefer to hear feedback in the form of voices.

I have a feeling I'll be crying too..I've already thought about that. Music is one thing I really look forward to hearing *again*. I'll probably relive the '80s all over again. Then there's the sounds of nature. Maybe actually hearing what the lady at the checkout actually said. Maybe no captions on the TV? I'm so used to them though. :hmm:

Did you pretty much research all the HA's and decide on one, or did your audiologist suggest it? I'm wondering if I should see more than one audi to get more opinions or ?

Yes I know what you are saying, music is very big in my life. I listen to it all of the time and I have much love for playing the Piano :)

Actually I didn't do a lot of research, it was a twist of fait that I met my audi and his wife. I had made an appointment for a hearing test at one center and the waiting list for a test was over a month long. I had been having a terrible time with tinnitus to where I couldnt sleep at night. I was in tears nearly every day and finally having been fed up with it I went online to see what other places I could go to. The first person I called was my current Audi's office. His wife has such a soothing voice and they were very upset to hear what I was going through and the fact I had to wait so long to get into get tests.
She made an appointment for me that day. With my loss he suggested these new ones that just came out in May. I got mine in September and he was very excited about them. He had other models and told me I could try them all but once he put these on me, I didn't want him to take them off. I guess I just got lucky. Mine are made by Starkey, and I realize that Starkey is pretty pricey but they are most certainly top of the line and almost 1st in their class in every category.
I would say to make sure you do like your Audiologist. Make sure you can trust them and ask a lot of questions if you aren't sure about something. Mine makes me feel so good about the decisions we decide on together. I can't wait to hear your story when you do get them :aw:

For me, I haven't seen anything different between my analog and digital hearing aids. My 3-year old HA is analog, and my 6-month old HA is digital. VRS paid for the new digital one. I got what was recommended by the audi since VRS was paying for it. And, frankly, I like the analog one just a tad better. Seems more clearer to me. But then again, I'm using the digital one in my "deafer" ear so perhaps that has something to do with it. I have heard others say they LOVE their digital ones, so .. go with what you want!

I had the phonak una first and I just got the new phonak versatas and I love them. Great aids! I also never had anything else but digital and I know the transition from analog to digital is hard for some and great for others. I would definitely go see your audi or a new one if u prefer (shop around--that's how i found my greatttt audi) and try out some new aids that are on the market. I have only worked with phonak and my audi works with everything but they sell many phonak products as well. Anyways I love my ha's so i'd encourage you to at least try out something new!

I saw your post about your new ones, congrats! Also it does make the difference in having a great audi :)

Starkey and Phonak are two that I've been looking at. Had some info sent to me some time ago from the companies. Widex is another..can't remember the others at the moment. I've been w/out any for so long that anything is probably going to blow me away.

AlleyCat..what or who is VRS? I did a search and I see it stands for Video Relay Services, but not sure why they'd pay for HA's. Don't worry, I'm not getting my hopes up that mine will be covered by anything.

Is there a book out there on how to find a good audi? :hmm: If I could just get that part out of the way I think I could get going on this sooner, finally. Maybe I should start a new thread on this, but if anyone knows of a good one in Southern WI or Northern IL..I'm all..errr...ears. I will definitely keep you updated when I get them, hopefully by spring.

Dutch, it is also meaning Vocational Rehabilitation.

My favorite HA moment so far is hearing beat of music once again and getting to hear my voice some to sing more.

Vocational Rehabilitation..that makes more sense. Thanks.

I think I'll be listening to Steve Perry(Journey) non-stop for a month, once I get HA's.

It is Vocational Rehabilitation Services. I have noticed every state "labels" theirs a little differently, but essentially that is what it is.
