I also have a progressive loss, started at about age 32 or so. I have worn hearing aids for almost 3 decades now. Despite all that, life is basically good. I have a wonderful husband, two adorable dogs, had a good career (now retired), etc., etc.
My point is, of course it's normal to be worried. However, look at all technology can do. It is AMAZING what progress has been made over the past two or three decades. I am sure that progress will continue.
You might ask your audiologist if she could recommend any therapists who work with late-deafened people; it might do you good to talk with someone about your fears and concerns.
And do take charge of your own life. Stay active; let your friends know when you need help with understanding something, but don't let your hearing loss take over your life. If you are working, ask for appropriate accommodation if that's possible, and try to keep yourself as up to date as possible both on what's available to help, and even more important, keep yourself up to date professionally in your field of interest.
There is a thread on here about adjusting to being late-deafened; you might find some useful insights posted there from people who have been through the same thing.
