Is there some sort of music player that works well with CI's? In some information dockets it seems like you can plug a music player directly into the processor or such. I'll have to read them again, although I'm abit too lazy to right now and it's beyond the point of the question -- Headphones or those inner ear inserts, direct connect? Basically I'm asking is what works best for you, what do you use or would think works good with CI's. Advanced bionics is what I'm going to be getting.

I have a Cochlear Freedom and a Personal Audio Cable which I use to plug my iRiver mp3 player direct to my CI, I also use it with a CD player. The Freedom has a small USB port at the bottom for this - i don't know about Advanced Bionics.

I plug myself into an Ipod (bought in an impulsive fit just before I lost my residual hearing but which has redeemed itself now) using a cable from Cochlear that plugs into the back of the speech processor and goes directly into the ipod. I don't listen to music on it though as I am not musically inclined. I use it to listen to people speaking such as talks, stories etc. It sounds really nice and clear and works well both with my telecoil and without.

I'm sure Boult will be along soon to tell you what the AB options are!

A USB port? Surely you mean a 1/8" port or a DAI port or something like that - I'm not aware of any devices that output audio through USB ...

Ipod for AB, get Audio Direct Connect earhook and plug into iPod's earphone jack Or use normal headphone (not earbud that comes with iPod though)

I believe she means mini-B USB (I think that is mini-B) port

Wow I did not know any kind of device or iPod that can be plugged directly to CI. Cool. Love to listen the music but I still not hear the music or whisper. Sad. Take time and no rush. I will make a decision wheather I want CI or HA?

Yes my mistake. You are correct.

Wow, that is way cool! A CI has a mini USB port! Just like my computer!

I'll have to buy one of those iPod nanos if I should find out I can become implanted. I'm still having recruitment issues so not buying those atm. I can't listen to music for more than five minutes without problems.

That's neat, but does it mean that the audio cables are a lot more fragile and expensive than they'd be if they were a simpler tech (1/8" or even Europlug)? Presumably it's going to take in a raw audio signal of some sort, which would then have to be processed into a format that could be sent over USB. Or am I missing something?

That said, having a standard input is neat. Does this mean you can upload maps to your CI - say, if you want to have more choices than there are slots available, or if your mappings get wiped by a static charge?

Nah, I don't think the audio cables are that fragile, but they ARE very expensive. Fortunately, Cochlear provides the audio cables with your CI kit when you first get activated...they did for me.

And the audiologist can upload the maps from their computers to your CI, and there are 4 program slots, 1 map in each. We (CIers) can't upload our own maps from our computers or anything, though. At least not now, but maybe in the future? Who knows?

Be careful what you ask for...you may get it! Ummm....interesting idea but I'm not sure that would be a good idea or not. I can see that it would be great if one needed to "reinstall" a map due to software/memory issues. This would allieviate a "trip" up to the audi just to reload a map. Setting a map up to one's particular specifications...well I can see some problems with that for some people. "I can't understand why everybody sounds like their are underwater!"

Now, I submit that I would love to be able to tweak my own map but I would want certain safety features activated so I don't blow my brain out. :D
