I got email from v-100 videophone company ...

I email them a question ... I said "Does it have to be required to have phone line service for Sorenson VP-100 Videophone?"

Then they email me back and he answer "no, you do not need to have a phone or any land line for the VP-100 to work. Many deaf people are disconnecting their phone lines and using VP-100 as an alternative way for communication."

I guess I dont need phone serivce. :)

I'm sure you'll still need to pay for some kind of service though. Using a video, you'll need to transmit it in some way and that sure isn't free.

VPs are very popular in Utah and are distributed free of charge to deaf Utahns, as long as they use Sorensen VRS at least 30 minutes a month. It is connected through your cable (i.e. cable TV, cable modem). Many deaf people here in Utah do not have phone lines anymore, and I don't have a phone line either. I am waiting for my VP to be installed, hurrrrryyyyyy! LOL I love VP. Its awesome being able to sign with your deaf friends on TV in real time. And VRS is much better than crappy text telephone relay service. The service itself is free, no additional fees to pay to Sorensen. You only pay for your cable provider.

Just out of curiousity, how are the people without phones making / accepting calls from deaf friends who don't have high speed internet/video?

Just use IP numbers.

Most people still don't know either how to use a computer or are afraid to use "technology." What's the solution? Not be friends with them anymore? Lots of people still either don't use computers or are afraid of computers.

I already answered your question and provided you information on requirement. you missed and created this thread? please read this thread to see what everyone were telling you.. it is all there! http://alldeaf.com/showthread.php?t=6517

"Just use IP numbers" ? wrong answer... the answer is: use netmeeting, or any other compatible software that support H.323. SorensonVRS also provide software based called EnvisionSL.

If they do not have broadband connection and webcams then they can use internet based relay services and use aim or email...
