Hi everyone!
I'm Janine, hard of hearing (due to childhood illness) mother to Bailee, 14 mo. old baby girl in KS.
I'm excited to get know more of you on this site as well as get the correct ASL signs & tips for learning more. I want to know more about the deaf culture and all. I volunteered at a conference this last weekend and saw a child with 2 hearing-aids in his ears (attached to his head)-- what is the deaf community's opinion of such things? I personally think natural is best and God made you just the way you are supposed to be. JMO.

Thanks & God Bless+
J9 & B :ugh3:

PS. E-mail me if you can tell me an easy way to sign Yogurt (my daughter's favorite but I don't think finger-spelling is the best option right now). THX!

Well, My opinion on others opinion is.. I don't care! It does not perticularly matter to me what someone else wants to do as long as it makes them happy.. If you want to become involved in the deaf community.. great.. if not..thats ok too.. Want to get a CI or start wearing hearing aids.. I'll support you and your decision.. think your fine the way you are? thats a great decision too!

I think the worst thing someone can do is deny themselves happiness..

but If you want my true thoughts on getting a child HA's or even CI, I would say yes.. when they are old enough to make that decision, the best years of their life for learning language will be gone. One of the great things I have found in this forum is the variety of different opinions people have and are able to share in a fairly open and positive environment. but.. im getting on a tangent..so ill stop..

As for learning ASL.. I applaud you for taking the steps in teaching yourself and your child.. It is not an easy thing to do!.. I remember someone had a few links on there signature of a few really good websites devoted to teaching ASL.. one had some really good video as well.. ASLpro.com I think.. you may want to check that out.

As for a sign for yougurt.. I don't know if there is one.. but.. there is no law against making one up..especially for use with your child!

Good Luck in your studies!

^^Nice post-- ;)
