Recently a deaf employee of IBM UK developed a text message-based system called "Location Aware Messaging for Accessibility" (LAMA) which functions as emergency messaging system upon moment of crisis like fire or earthquake and sends text message to notify deaf subscriber of such occurrence.
Such system will be of great advantage to public accessibility for deaf and hard of hearing in near future, as thought by many researchers. I am a master student doing similar research on mobile and wireless messaging service for deaf and hard of hearing, in Japan.
If anyone has any idea or thought on kinds of mobile and telecom services that are of great assistance to lives of people with hearing disability in terms of accessibility and mobility, please send me your thoughts and ideas to my email yiehiro@msn.com.
I have a family member who is also a born deaf. I hope my research will benefit such people in their lives prolonging materially.
