Missouri Police taser injured boy 19 times

Sara Sheffield reports on an injured teen from Ozark, Missouri who was tasered up to 19 times by police.

Passing motorists called Ozark police out of concern for the teen as he walked along the busy overpass. When the police arrived, the young man was lying on the shoulder of the highway directly underneath the 30 foot high overpass with a broken back and foot.

Doctors believe 16-year-old Mace Hutchinson broke his back and heel after falling, as his injuries are consistent with such a fall. The boy's family does not understand why police would have tasered the the teen 19 times after he was so seriously injured.

The teen's father said that the use of the taser caused Mace to develop an elevated white blood cell count, leading to a fever that delayed the young man's otherwise immediate surgery by two days.

Ozark Police Capt. Thomas Rousset attempted to explain why the taser was used:

"He refused to comply with the officers and so the officers had to deploy their Tasers in order to subdue him. He is making incoherent statements; he's also making statements such as, 'Shoot cops, kill cops,' things like that. So there was cause for concern to the officers."

Ozark police say that while there remains unanswered questions in the case, the reason for the use of the Taser is not one of them.

The Raw Story | Missouri Police taser injured boy 19 times

You can see the pictures and video... Unbeleivable... *shake my head disgusitly*

Should we switch from taser to real gun and shot just one time. Bang! He is dead.

I think PowerOn made a good point. A tazer is less likely to kill someone than a gun.

A taser is less likely to kill someone, but why would a cop need to use a weapon on a 16 year old kid that is lying on the side of the road with a broken back and a broken foot? How much of a threat is posed by someone with those injuries that has just experienced a fall?

The purpose of carrying a weapon is to protect themselves. I don't care what this kid said, he could not have been posing a physical threat to this officer. If he said something incoherent, it was most likely because of the fall and hitting his head. He was already in a prone position. How was he uncooperative? By not getting up? His back was broken for heaven's sake! And to be tasered 16 times is excessive in any situation!

The question is not if cops should have tasers or guns...the question is should a cop like this even have a damned badge? This is another case of the armed cop being far more dangerous than the alleged criminal. Serving and protecting? I think not! If passing motorists realised that this kid was injured and needed help, why the hell couldn't a trained officer recognize the situation for what it was?

Well, I'm saying it will not kill anyone if police is smart enough to shot with real gun on the enemy's leg or arm to slow down or whatever.

And yet, there is always bad cop in wrong time and wrong place. Oh boy.

The point is, this kid was already incapacitated with a broken back and a broken foot. He was not armed. He did not need to be subdued, he needed medical assistance.

tazer rule for police

1. You are being paid by tax payers to serve and to protect the citizen of the town in which you live in.

2. Use your common sense when using tazer gun

3. You are not allow to use taser gun when the innocent person is seriously injured and has no weapon at all.

4. Using the taser gun on the innocent person for refusing to comply is like same as using the real gun on the innocent person.

5. If you don't know how to use common sense, how to protect, and how to serve the citizen then don't be the police officer. We don't want any officer who doesn't has common sense and reckless working for us.

What if the boy is his relative or friend or friend's son, then would he still be using taser gun on him for 19 times? I think the story will be different.

Are you serious?

Why can´t the police officer find the way to handle an unarmed teenager without use taser on him dozen of times?

He was so badly injured. Police Officer made no sense when he explained his reason why he taser him?

Why should police shot with gun on unarmed person´s leg or arm for? It would be different story if he/she has gun and try to run away... shot to slow him/her from run fast.

I was serious. I did not mean the police should have used the tazer.

But if something went wrong and they overreacted, I would rather they shot me with a tazer and not a gun. I might survive the tazer.

Obivously the police officer wasnt thinking clearly. he must have been working overtime to think right when he tasered the boy. i am sure the family will sued the police department for what the police officer did when the boy's back was broken? jeez. this police officer need to be fired and never work in law enforcement ever again.

They did it because he is white!
