Were any of you ever involved with any groups that are almost like military stuff?

For instance, Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, Awana, etc...

Yeah, I was in the Brownies and Girl Scouts.

What about you, Vampy?

I was in Brigade (I think) and Awana.

I don't remember exactly what it was, but all I remember was that it was called Brigade. The uniforms were light blue and the stuff we did were almost like Boy Scouts.

Awana was easy to remember. I was part of Pioneers (older boys section).

Both groups were part of church.

I was in boy scout and high school sports such as track and ice hockey. the coaches were like nazi..... does that count for military-like group?

I was a Cub Scout, then a Boy Scout.
The outdoor skills you learn last a lifetime. ;)

Boy Scouts... yes.

Sports... no.

I'm referring to groups where you are recognized by ranks like in the military and earn badges for what you do.

I see, So by joining those Military-Like groups - Do you feel that it was your worthwhile?

As for me, I felt that it was worth my time because I was able to learn the basic survival skills. We also did participate in several projects by learning how to build small stuffs or whatanot. It was a good experience.

Boy scout, yes and that group was my first time to visit Canada :)

I was in a group of handicapped girl scouts for two miserable years. My stepmother's idea.

I did not earn any badges.:cool2:

I was in AWANAS. When I was a kid. Through the local church.

Had lots of fun with games and races with the circle and the X. 4 different teams.

I don't know. I was very young and never paid much attention to the things that were offered in those groups. I was involved because my parents forced me to. With them being religious, they felt that it was my duty to be part of church-related military groups instead of regular military groups.

If I was aware of what was going on, I would have taken them seriously and earned a lot of badges than just playing around. :(

AWANAS. If that what you are referring to....

Correct me if I'm wrong.

It is more like a church youth group. Never went camping or talked about the survival skills.

Badges was earned by learning verses and competitions.

Unless you are talking about a completely different thing it was more of the man above military.

So I'm not sure if it can be compaired to the military of earning badges of survival or true military of what is expected in survival.

That's what I mean.

Since I didn't get to go out and do fun stuff, I never paid much attention.

"Okay boys, to get your first star... you gotta memorize these Bible verses."

"Good job! Here's your tiny little 1 millimeter star!"

"Now, to get your second star... sing the Awana song!" *groans*

I wanna learn how to make a fire. I wanna run around with a pocketknife! I wanna learn about camping!

There was another group that I was part of called Brigade (I think). They were more close to Boy Scouts than Awana. I actually go to go camping. Although the camping part was more of a minor activity and church activities were major. :(

If only, they had badges for video games. ;)

I know what you mean. Been there and done that. I had fun doing it as a child. I was 8 til 10 yrs old.

Then nothing in between.

I eventually joined the Canoe Club in my high school years. We did not earn badges but we did learn a lot of basic survival skills.
Camping, swimming, and of course canoeing.

We had to pack and unpack our supplies. Etc.

The club was affiliated with the boy scout and it was a deaf group. Taught us responsibilities and respect for nature. I loved it.

So I don't know if you count that as military or not.

Boy Scout of America (the clubs that has list goes on like Cub, Varsity, and blah blah).

thats only group that i involved for a long time.
