BARNSTABLE, Mass. (AP) A Barnstable middle school student will be summonsed to court after handing out Viagra samples to three classmates.
The drug, used to treat erectile dysfunction, apparently had no effect on the one boy who took it.
''We don't know where (the suspect) got it,'' said Barnstable police Sgt. Sean Sweeney. ''He gave it to three friends and one of the boys took it and nothing happened.''
The drug is not a hormone or aphrodisiac. It works by increasing blood flow.
Sweeney said a teacher at Hyannis Middle School heard students discussing the matter, and reported it to the dean.
The three boys identified the boy who gave them the Viagra after being questioned by police. The boys were searched at school. Police found a small amount of marijuana in the locker of one boy, who is 13. He'll also be summonsed to court, Sweeney said.
Lt. Robert Melia of the Cape Cod Drug Task Force said he's not seeing a big demand for Viagra among middle schoolers.
''What in the world does a 14-year-old boy need Viagra for?'' Melia said. ''This is not something we generally come across on the Cape.''
