My message to the deaf students in elementary, junior high, and high school. You study hard, be wise, be independent, and think for what you feel and like. Do this and you'll succeed in a job that you like. If you dont, you could end up being a collective lifer at Gallaudet University which is no better than a dependency gulag.

Nesmuth, I really don't think Gallaudet is as bad as a Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich. In fact, it's one of the few havens for those of us who need a good retreat every now and then.

i totally agree with you nesmuth.

gallaudet's graduation rates are plummetting in which around only 40% of its students actually graduate. and that is just sad.

i find it hilarious that they call gallaudet "deaf harvard."

WHAT??? WHat are you talking about? I don't know what is going on with this thread...

Mod Note:

Encouraging is 'one' thing, but to pinpoint a source as a place/person, etc., isn't by putting it down in a sense that displays negativity. Please refrain from doing such...rather, encourage 'others' in a way that each person can perhaps find a path that is indeed successful in their lives. ;)

That's just wrong. It's like you're actually disencouraging Deaf people of tomorrow's generation not to go to university. I know GU isn't the best, but it does have options. I believe Deaf people are also capable of studying at Harvard, Yale, Princeton, and all those top universities in the world. Deafness isn't going to be a barrier in our education.

I'm studying at one of the top universities, and trust me! Life for me is the same as life for other students!!

You are right! Education isn't meant to be divided, its for all!!

I dont agree with u. I went to Arizona State University for my BA and Gallaudet for my MA and I have to say I learned a LOT about my field of work from my studies at Gallaudet. I think it depends on what you want to major in.

It dpeends on each individual if they want to take advantage of their college experience and use it to the best of their ability or just use it to party away their lives.
