Just made my appointments for March of next year with Audi & EMT. They believe that after more testing they will be able to narrow down exactly when during the next 10 to 15 years my hearing will be completely gone.

From my experience-became "totally" deaf after 14 3/4 years. Lost all hearing in Right ear-Feb 19/92 after extensive tests/scans etc in St Michaels ENT advised likely to lose all hearing in Left ear. When? Happened on December 20,2006. I was at Profound level for almost 25 years- if memory serves me. Long time ago.

Reading history backwards- the criteria for Implanting has changed as great deal. Thanks in part to improvements in the Implants. Today I would be accepted in the above situation-as as I was 3 years ago.

March? Hmm, they must be really booked solid for months.

At least you'll be able to take advantage of a CI. The CI must be a GODSEND to those in the community who have progressive hearing loss.

Well I'm going to assume you mean totally deaf even with your hearings aids. So the question I have are what kind of testing will they do to make that kind of determination. Will they just go by your progressive loss that shows on your audiogram or is there actual testing that they do. And what do they say is causing your loss. And have you been tested for that. My apologies if these questions have already been covered.

Whole Bag

They intent to throw everything they have at me. They have no idea what could be causing this but I my hearing is 40 years a head of where it should be and I am only 37

C-Nice: the real question for you-will an Implant help me now? Knowing the "end result" of what is causing your Hearing Impairment will not actually assist you-as I discovered from my "journey of 14 years". Genetic! There is , of course, a real cost to getting an Implant. No easy answer to your problem. Good luck in finding a resolution.

C-Nice: Further thought- your age. Probably would recover from the operation quickly-assuming you are "good health" to tolerate a 4-5 hour operation.
As I live in Toronto Ontario and have access to a regional Cochlear Implant centre-Sunnybrook-- where they have been processing persons for the last 18 years and do have the collective experience on this matter.
