I had to go pick my dad up from work ( I used to work with him way back when) since the highways were all backed up due to some storms I took the backroads in... I passed by the landfill site where the nuclear wastes were disposed of after the Manhattan Project. The containers have started to leech and heat has caused the landfill to start burning underground releasing radioactive steam, they used a barrier and buried that with controlled vents to monitor everything ( you can see some of the metal vents in a few pictures. They are unable to put out the underground fires and has been doing this for a few years now. Lots of homes were bought out by the government but some people still buy and build in the area then complain later about health issues... They know what they were doing and were warned beforehand so the government wont bail them out. Here is a few shots as I passed the area yesterday. It is still used as a landfill today. ( see the trash truck entering )
