You had a good point to consider the other point of view. While, people stated that ExR was "wrong" -the explaination/opposing side of the story was not brought up in ExR thread until late into the postings.
Your point might have backfired a little bit because it was a joke - I'm NOT speaking for everyone, but for those who posted in your thread, it looks like they took it seriously or in good humor. However, for the people who realized it as a joke, they responded with LOL rather than actually answering your question for ExR (and others) to see your point.
Personally, I wouldn't consider it along the same lines of Byrdie, but I can understand that people want things to be serious/honest in certain realms of life, relationships being one of them. Personally, I thought it was funny.
