there are many "pit bulls" <a loose term that people tend to use to cover from 5 to 7 actual actual breeds of dog> around simply because they are mistakenly popular as "macho" or "guard" dogs <they do not actually have the temperament for this that is actually more appropriate for a guardian type dog> , and they as a group - tend- to be extremely people-friendly if socialized to many people and are naturally more "forgiving" of cruelty and ignorant peoples' actions than many other types of dogs.  This is due to the inherent patience and tolerance of many in this category....coming from their original background of some of those included in the "pit bull" label.
