Man arrested for shooting hawk

A Centereach man has been arrested for shooting a Red Tail Hawk with a pellet rifle, Suffolk police said.

Responding to an anonymous 911 call, a sixth precinct officer interviewed Michael Jackson, 49, of Eastwood Boulevard who said he shot the hawk because it was attacking his pigeons. Police said he led the officer to the hawk which was alive and in a cage.

Officers transported the hawk to the Selden Animal Hospital where it is expected to live, but a wing will be amputated.

Jackson was charged with overdriving, torturing and injuring animals, Section 353 of the Agricultural Markets Law, and was released on stationhouse bail to appear in court at a later date.

definately Lianca!! *smh* some ppl would torture/abuse animals regardless of what type animal they are -- glad that guy has been charged with torturing the hawk

i just feel bad for the bird having to have his wing amputated :cry:

I know Fly.. I feel bad for the bird.. The bird dont have his freedom anymore bec he cannot fly. It isnt fair.. :cry:
 
i know Lianca -- poor thing :( im sure someone would adopt the hawk and give him a good home *sigh*

Well...

I think Red Tail Hawk is protected by Wildlife Protection Agency because shooting or hunting is illegal.
 
yeah, protected by wildlife protection agency and stuff...

I dont think he was being honest when he said the hawk was attacking his pigeons...that just sounds abit odd, if you ask me
 
That's true.

Well... I do know that pigeons are hardly taming. I think shooter may be idiot if he lets his pigeons free. Many hawks can't attack pigeons in cage.
 
Michael Jackson? Wow, that makes 2 to be arrested! ;)
