CAMDEN, New Jersey (AP) -- A man admitted trying to obtain more than $83,000 in September 11 survivors' benefits by claiming that two wives had been killed in the attacks on the World Trade Center.
Mark Christopher, 39, pleaded guilty Tuesday to theft and other charges. He faces up to 20 years in state prison and must repay $45,000 to the American Red Cross.
Attorney General Peter Harvey said Christopher admitted creating two nonexistent wives to obtain money from various September 11 disaster relief programs.
Christopher remained in jail and is scheduled to be sentenced November 7.
