With all due respect to vallee, I do not wish to re-open the topic but I was travelling yesterday and had wanted to post this but was unable to do so:

Sheri,

Thanks for your posts they were very informative and I now see why you have been so successful on your appeals!

What struck me the most was this quote:

"Eleven years ago, Blue Cross completely pissed me off by withholding approval for my daughter's hearing impairment related surgery for seven months. My daughter finally got her surgery, and gained five grade levels in reading in seven months after the surgery, and I was so overjoyed that I made a commitment to myself and God that every family who wanted this should have the same opportunities my daughter had, and not just because they happened to have a mom who was a lawyer with resources available. That's when I started doing appeals for free (that was about 1000 appeals ago, BTW)."

I think it says so much about you as a person and your commitment to helping others. It also re-affirmed to me that there have been so many people that my wife and I have met over the years in the deaf community who share the same philosophy as you and how thankful we all are to you and all those others!

Sorry to hear about recent events affecting you and your home but I wish you all the best this Holiday Season and for next year as well.
Rick

Thank you Sheri. Happy Holidays and will e-mail after the first of the year with an update.

Well said, Rick!!! I agree, thank you for your posts, Sheri!

Merry Christmas Sheri and may you new year be better then the last. :)

And:
Thanks for all you do for those who are having problems with their insurance. Many do want to hear so LTHF gives them that chance.

Hiiii, good to see you again, how's Drew? sorry for the off-topic, just surprise to see ya back.

Hi Angel, Drew is doing really great! He's growing fast, just about to walk and is doing well with his CI's also. Thanks for asking.

Thanks for the welcome also - I didn't think anyone would notice that I've been gone.

We all noticed. Welcome back, and Happy New Year to you. Glad to hear Drew is doing well. He's a cute little bugger!

:Smiling: that's great, I'm looking forward reading more of your son's update on his CI, etc. yes I did noticed you were gone for quite a while, so glad to see you back here again

Again, sorry for the off-topic, couldn't help myself.

Blue Cross BS sucks!
They denied me an implant too. We kept appealing but they said no.
Then two days after I received the implant, my dad got a letter in the mail. It was the insurance commissioner saying she'd been gone for a month and asking if she could do anything to help us.
Pffft.

I have 7 denial letters from them. They refused to talk to me using relay. It was horrible. LTH and my insurance trust got involve.

But on the plus side, bcbs has changed there policy for bilateral. So if you are going to get the other one done, they should not deny you if you qualify.

We had a ridiculously easy time getting approved, I feel fortunate, but I know that many (probably most) others have a horrible experience getting approved. I'm sorry you had such a bad experience.

I just popped in this topic and I am a little behind:

Is this the Sheri that is the advocate for the Let Them hear Foundation?

I have Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey and I had no problem with getting approved. I am curious when I start the proceeding to get the other ear done if it will be that easy. However Valle, when I tried calling them on relay it was absolutely ridiculous. I couldn't get a straight answer from them regarding anything. A simple question took about 45 minutes at work to ask them.

Yes this is Sheri the lawyer for LTHF. I was able to get one approved within three weeks, no problem. They would not approve the bilateral. I made a decision to have one surgery. That was the problem with the approval.

Now I have a direct person I go to at Blue Cross. My school system gave me the e-mail of my direct contact. She lets me know what is going on and solves any problems. Right now I am having problems with my order from Advanced Bionics. I hope she gets it worked out soon.

You should have it easier with the other ear, since BCBS changed policy. That is the wonderful work of LTHF.
