Looking for a good part-time ASL program in the Boston area...

Hi, I'm new here. I'm hearing, but I am really interested in the deaf community and learning ASL. Ever since I was introduced to the deaf community, I have been drawn to so many aspects of their life, and I'd like to be able to get more involved.

I have been looking for a good program in the Boston area to learn ASL, preferably on evenings through the week since I work and I'm in school for my MBA. Busy schedule, but you only live once. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks everyone.
 
I know that both Boston University and Northeastern University have programs for learning ASL. I study ASL at the University College at night at Northeastern University. They have many options for learning ASL including an interpreters program. I am H of H and am not interested in the interpreters program, but I am studying in the Deaf studies program. But I would also see what BU has to offer so that you can see what your options are.
 
I have deaf relatives in Boston as well, don't forget to check out the Boston's Deaf social events like Deaf Coffee or Boston's Deaf communities. Enjoy socialising as you do learn much faster this way by interacting with peers.
 
GREAT suggestions, guys. Thanks for those, especially that local Deaf events link, Cookie Monster. As it turns out, I decided to sign up for a 10 week course at DEAF Inc. I'm psyched to get started, and I'm already excited/nervous about that first real "Deaf night out", haha. It's going to be like jumping into a whole new world, but whatever. I know a few local deafies and they're great people. I can't wait to be able to interact on a different level with them.

I'm thinking about Northeastern for some additional classes after I get my feet wet at DEAF Inc. I'm already at Northeastern for my MBA, so it isn't too much of a stretch.

By the way, Big E. I have a very good friend who went through the NU interpreters program. I don't know what year you are, but they have an amazing program. Enjoy it.
 
You're quite welcome, Skizza20 and I noticed under your profile that you mentioned your location was Newton, MA. It's a good place to branch out from there on because there is a Newton Deaf club as well with the EDCO Program for the Deaf. You can always volunteer with EDCO and learn more ASL, hence the quote "hit two birds with one stone". I have an aunt that works at The Learning Center for Deaf Children in Framingham, MA so I was able to learn a lot from her growing up.

Awesome! I'm so new to this whole world that I almost don't know where to start, but I love seeing what's around me.

That friend I mentioned that went through the NU interpreting program has worked at the Learning Center on and off for a couple of years now. She usually works summers and helps out with the kids whenever she has free time. I also work right down the street from it. Thanks for the info on the club in Newton. Once I get some ASL knowledge under my belt, I'll check that out.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, I think my friend works for the EDCO program. I know she's terping at Newton North HS and EDCO sounds very familiar...I'll have to ask. :p Now that I think about it and read up on it a little, I'm sure that's what she's doing. Very cool...
