*Learning ASL for my Fiance'*

Hey everyone! I recently became engaged to my love Geoff. <3 Geoff is 80% deaf and depends on ASL... I want to learn ASL to help us. It is sad to know that many of his exes did not even attempt to learn ASL for him... or completely wrote him off when they found out he was deaf... so disrespectful.. it was like they.. well I don't even know.. I guess in a weird way I have them to thank... cause now he is my boobear babylove!!!! <3
Anyways.... the date is set for November 1st 2011 (I know its not 11-11-11 and that is only cause I hate the number 6.. so by getting married on the first.. its only 5 ones! <3) Geoff and I would like to sign our vows.... of course it will be an easy task for him.... but for me.. lol.. not so much. Anyways... I guess I'm just here to make friends and also get tips on any and everything to do with ASL. Anything would help bunches. Thanks you guys!

Hey, welcome to AD! I'd check out the ASL/Oralism board for tips on learning ASL. There's tons of resources out there. :)
 
I admire your desire to learn ASL, it will definitely help break the communication barrier. One advice, don't stop learning even after you say "I do."

It seems to be the common trend nowadays ;) so keep signing and welcome to AD!

I think it is great that you are learning ASL.. It will make your relationship so much better with having the ability to communicate with him in a more efficient way.

Good luck. It is also more fun to learn when you have someone to practice with!

my boyfriend is hearing and he learn asl for me since none of my ex's dont learn for me.

Thank you all for your congrats.. oh and I definitely plan on continuing to sign.. I absolutely love it.. it's a beautiful language. And yes, I do love him deeply... he is absolutely everything I could ever wish for. I wouldn't call him disabled even in the slightest meaning of the word... he is far from disabled.. he is an inspiration.. my strength.. he keeps me going. I love him with all my heart. Anyways.. thanks again for all the tips! God bless!!!
 
Congratulation on your engagement to your fiance. Like all the ADers here, I encourage you to keep on signing with him. That is the most important communication in the relationship and marriage.
