Kid's nutrition...

One thing that I have noticed from watching this program is that invariably it's the parents who set the tone.

They are the only ones responsible for groceries - who's got money?- ,
and I was suprised to find out that after they were supposed to get rid of sweets and start buyng veggies and fruit -they had no idea what is what and where in the store!!

They let their children watch too much TV, too much Gameboys and Nintendos and not enough exercise.
the amount of sugar they all eat but especially children makes them hyper and cranky.

Families participating in this interesting challenge of lifestyle makeover really suffer at the beginning but then they like it so much better!
It brings them closer as a family, makes more fit, and healthier.
And they lose weight!

I think it is well worth to take a look at your own diet and a lifestyle.
Me and my daughter promised ourselves we will eat more fruits and veggies, less sweets and snacks like chips, nutrition bars etc. Daddy's included. And so far so good.

It is also possible to eat poor diet rich in sugars and not be overweight - it's still bad because the body ages faster and get sick more often anyway due to poor nutrition..

I am in total agreement with you Audiofuzzy. We try to go as organic as we can. We also do not give our daughter meat. (We are both vegetarians) Instead, we give her tofu or any meat substitutes. I am also extended breastfeeding her. (Benefits of extended breastfeeding can me found here: http://www.kellymom.com/bf/bfextended/ebf-benefits.html )

We usually buy fresh (way more fresh than what grocery stores offer) fruit and/or vegetables at fruit/veggie stands for less money! They can be found in the country, on the side of the road, near farms.

Also exercise is important. Children who move a lot burn more calories, are calmer, sleep better.
the same applies to adults, of course.
