Kids Found Alone In Filthy Home, Begged Neighbors For Food
Kids Found Alone In Filthy Home, Begged Neighbors For Food - News Story - WEWS Cleveland

LORAIN, Ohio -- A Lorain neighborhood is in shock after children went to residents' houses, begging for food.

The children live on West 21st Street in a home police describe as filthy with no working plumbing.

A concerned neighbor called police, saying four young children were home alone in a filthy home and that they were hungry.

Police said they found the children, ages 4, 3, 2 and 1, alone in the home that had dirty dishes in the sink, a toilet filled with feces and spoiled food in the refrigerator.

The children told police that they had to go to the bathroom outside and one child said he hadn't had a bath since the family moved into the home more than a month ago.

Mostly, neighbors and police said the children were hungry, at one point eating berries off a tree outside.

The children's mother told police she was at work and told her brother to watch the children.

The children have been placed with a grandparent while the mother gets the house into a clean and livable condition.

The police report will be handed over to prosecutors, who will decide if any charges should be pressed against the mother.

that totally gross!! :iobarf:

glad kids went to the next door thats how they know they are all alone. poor kids.

Sounds like this mother is living beyond her means and her children are suffering for it. Forget getting the house into a livable condition, she needs to move into an income based apartment. Get one thats got 2 bedrooms, put two children in each bedroom, and the mother can sleep on a futon in the living room, and she needs to definitely look into getting a reliable sitter for her children.

IMO-- that's too young for siblings to be home alone and to be honest it's unpleasant to live in a dirty home. I don't know if she's lazy or just didn't have the energy to devote to housecleaning. She needs to get her act together-- those children do not deserve to live like that.

*SMH* I dont know what to say...

She needs to do something because what she's doing now is obviously not working. Hopefully the right people will intervene and get these kids to a place where they will be taken care of.

I concur.

However, where is the father (s) of the children? Let's not leave him out and get his sorry butt in there to do his fair share.

Has this woman ever considered birth control or having her tubes tied? She doesn't need any more children.

That's always been puzzling to me regarding women who live in poverty. Why repeat the cycle...I dont understand the mentality sometimes.

I don't know if it also apply in the States, but up here doctors don't tie men or women unless you are at least 30. Legally it is around 25, but they have the rights to refuse service, and most of them refuse to do so until 30 or 35. Even then there is a major psychological evaluation to go through if you want to be tied earlier than 25.

I have a cousin (the often aforementioned one here) that is currently undergoing a psych evaluation by CPS. I seriously doubt that she will pass it, given this she will likely lose the children she has and likely will be ordered to take part in parenting classes and undergo therapy and placed on birth control.

Hopefully the children if they have to be placed will be placed with family that can care for them, there are 3 siblings involved, one of which is a newborn.
