Cool, my cousin and families live in Kansas City (on Missouri side).

4 hours one way? :dizzy:

why not your daughter ride bus or train to see you?

Apparently Amtrak hit a backhoe in Georgia and derailed, damaging the tracks and killed 2 of the 340 some odd passengers. They are saying that Amtrak will be shut down completely across the states til repairs are made, so wondering now if I am going to have to drive to pick up my daughter to get her back home as she is using the Amtrak for her trip to visit her sister....

It looks like the wondering Sono did in the Amtrak thread about the wreck is over and he is driving. It must be a matter of timing and cost. I was just sure there is passenger rail service between KC and St. Louis but could be wrong as I have had no need to use it.

There are, but maybe the times didn't fit Sono's and his daughter's needs.

It seems we both had the same thought about timing. I am glad to discover that my memory about service was right.

Or maybe her daughter wants to bring home stuff she can't take on the train. A lot of IFs, so lets wait for Sono to come back and tell us what he wants us to know.

You could have looked up the trains on Amtrak.com....

It feels like you always have something different for me to have done regardless of what I say. Why?

Safe journeys!

(He doesn't need to take a piss jar, as LB said-- side of the road or stop at a visitor center or exit to stretch legs and pee. Certainly can't do a #2 into a piss jar and hanging your butt out on the side of the highway is probably not a smart idea)

Ok heres the deal.
My daughter took the Amtrak to Caldwell Kansas to see her older half sister. Te trip down was fairly fast. Now, returning was an issue, dont know if it was due to the wreck the night she went down, but from caldwell to kansas city was 4 hours (3am-7am) but the train didnt get there til almost 9am. There was a layover until 8pm tonight and then it wasnt for certain it was going to be there? She has an interview early in the morning for a Doctors office and cant be late or tired. So I left at midnight to get there to beat the morning rush hour traffic and sleep a few in the back of the jeep. Since the train was running way behind I got a little more than expected. Didnt really sleep, jus snoozed off and on. She got there and we hit the highway and stopped once we got on the main stretch to eat. She slept the whole way back and I was fighting it. Thought Id drop a line before I hit the sack early myself.... Im beat.
