Just keep up with ASL

Interesting but nothing new. Hearing people in charge of deaf education in our nation's capitols are afraid of ASL. But they are the ones who make provisions of what courses are mandatory. English is mandatory but not ASL and yet they falsely(?) tout the advantages of bilingualism. Can you spell hypocrisy?

I think a nationwide endeavor should be taken up to make ASL mandatory from kidnergarden thru high school. After all, isn't ASL the other half of the bilingual concept? Nevermind the fact that ASL is the natural language of the deaf as they/we are visual learners. Heretofore, all we have gotten is lip service.

I wonder how many States have mandatory ASL in place alongside English. None, I bet......doesn't it make you wonder how this can be............?

For me, since I don't know enough ASL, I could not follow it at all. Sorry.

thank you, kristina. I know that there are pretty a lot of non signers here on ad. sorry it has no subtitles.

But Tousi (sarcasm) Don't you know? ASL is *gasp* SPESHAL NEEDS! We must make dhh kids be as "normal" as possible. It also would be removing parental choice about schooling. ...and I can just imagine those AG Bell Mamas screaming and hollaring that " their child isn't going to have any of that speshal needs" stuff.
