I ask this only as question(not to start a debate or arument), but has anyone done any kind of independent non biased study of CI effectiveness? Just to get some real data, not to be pro of anti just to get at the truth of the matter. I am only asking because I am a bit of tech-head and just love technology in general. Also I have been following the CI debate a little bit and am trying to gain greater understanding(trying to make more HoH & deaf friends since I am losing my hearing and do not want to make any etiquette errors.

Ive done alot of research and posted some of it in my blog. Theres still so much I don't know about CI such as results being highly variable, like someone may be able to get -5db(current record) while others can't hear better than 50db.

I think it's to do with the person's hearing ability and the severity of hearing loss. Also to do with if they have had hearing aids in the past

That lady who got -5db is 100% deaf with no residual hearing. She did get a CI a decade ago which stopped working so she was reimplanted.

Yes....Just as different people get different results from hearing aids, so it goes with CIs.

I agree!!

I got implanted almost 9 years ago, i am currently hearing at 30db across all frequencies, except from one which is at 35db.
