I'm going to try to get the CAT scans done, and find out if there is ANY possibility of implanting the left ear. If not, that's it. I came across a new hearing aid on Phonak's website last night (thanks to a thread posted here), and it made me rethink implanting the right ear. I still have enough hearing in my right ear, that a powerful high tech hearing aid helps. Yes, I miss some speech sounds, but visual support helps me to fill in the blanks. And with the new hearing aid, I might be able to hear more with it. I just don't want to risk whatever hearing I have left in the right ear.
If it's possible to do the left ear, I'll get the implant in that ear, no doubt about it. But the right ear, I'll leave it alone and stick with hearing aids, until it gets to the point where hearing aids are no longer of any help or benefit to me.
I've been thinking a lot about this since last night. I've emailed the CI audiologist in Denver, and she understands. She said it was very wise of me to consider EVERYTHING, the costs of traveling back and forth, how much use I get out of a hearing aid in the right ear, etc. But I do want to find out for sure if there's any hope at all for the left ear, so I'll definitely check into the CAT scans. But I don't want to mess with my right ear, not unless I feel it's absolutely necessary.
At this time, I think a new hearing aid, with all these features available (my current hearing aid is only barely 4 years old and doesn't have these features!), is the best option for my right ear, with WindBlock, Real Ear Sound, feedback control, AudioZoom, SoundRecover (it helps boost the S, SH, F sounds, etc.), etc.
Nice a nice day everyone!
