Is this possible to get even better speech in noisy environment by?

To take my everyday program, copy it into another programming slot. Then to enhance the 60db speech section which I believe would increase gain/MPO but then lower the over all gain/MPO back to what my everyday program is set at?

So at the end, my speech line would be higher then all the other lines within the software and more so then the everyday program but I won't have more gain/MPO.

Would that work or would it totally mess the sound up? Is it actually possible?

I know with the Naidas, you get all the features to help with speech in noise but am wondering if the above could help more?

hmmmmm I have no idea. But imagine, that when the speech in noise kicks in you're still getting all that gain, could be wrong though. I don't know if it's possible for them to leave the background noise alone and just make the speech even louder, the aids can only go up so many decibels, and I wonder if it would give you a headache, or if it would just be a hot mess lol.

Yah that is the big problem to sort the sounds of human speech from the noise that makes it so we cannot hear those sounds properly.
I have put a lot of thought into this because it is a totally subjective situation. How in the world do I describe it? Only I will know when it is all the way right. Even then it becomes a rightness that is moving away as it gets better.
I keep modelling it around in my mind. Meanwhile I think I will begin the ASL study too. As much as the ha's help it is a vast relief to take 'em out at home.

I am glad you have the technical know how to really experiment.

I think you're expecting a miracle. Hearing aids can only do so much. I don't get it when people start going " I can't hear this or that." THAT is what being HOH is about...........a hearing aid at best makes you functionally HOH. NOT hearing.

I only ask as he raised my left 60db speech line higher as I couldn't understand speech and altho I can't understand speech still, I can hear it way better.

I'm just assuming that the gain/MPO would increase in the process.

I think everyone knows that. That we are not hearing.

HAs these days have different types of programming. Because I don't have Naida's type of HA, I can't answer her OP, but it's certainly a valid question.

No need to be Dr. Doom.

I know..... I'm just reminding the OP (and maybe other lurkers) that there's only so much that a CI and a HA can do.....Not having access to a certain frequency or having difficulty in noise is simply a part of being HOH. There are other alternative ways to get around the partial hearing problem.

The short answer is: No it wouldn't work.

The longer answer is: One of the main reasons background noises are so hard for us to deal with is because they often fall in the same frequency ranges as speech sounds. This means raising your speech frequencies will just raise the background noise with it - you hear both, or neither.

You could see if playing with the limiter and compression settings would help you any - but keep in mind that in really noisy environments the limiter will "clip" and distort the sound if pushed too hard.

Somehow my mind differentiates between human speech sounds and other sounds. This means there is something there in our noises that is unique. There must be a way to grab those unique different human vocal sounds and amplify only them. There must be.

One way that comes to mind is to first have a way to down load into the aid the individual you most want to hear, their unique sounds. Then the aid will know their sounds and be able to amplify them out of all sounds.
Is there capacity in these things for that I don't know but there are people who do.
If the aid can be programmed to do that with one person it is only a matter of time being able to download in many individuals.

Doesn't mean you can't try things! What works for other people and what won't work for you is totally different.

I have an app with my audiologists today.

The fact he higher my left and is sounds so much better means that it may work. Just at the moment, I feel lopsided in my hearing as the speech line is not giving me equal volume on both ears.

Well, it is possible and I've had it set up today and it works EXTREMELY well in noise :)

Cool! I will be going in soon for my adjustments and will ask about it. She may have done something similar already when she did an adjustment that helped in noise.

Great!

I don't have your type of HA -- mine are Starkey and Rexton. Next time I'm in I will ask if my audi can reprogram my Starkey to do better in noise too. I didn't ask for that in the past.

It's always nice to learn things are possible.

I went with Widex for this reason, and while they're wonderful, they're just a machine. It helps somewhat but it'd help more if people quieted down.....no hearing aid is going to be able to part the waters so to speak.....

A few days before Christmas I brought my daughter to the Customer Service desk at the mall, she had lost her phone there the day before. They called me and her dad (who texted her that the mall found the phone, she thought that was hysterical *dumbass*) that they had her phone. Anyway so I'm talking to the lady, and my daughter is shushing me. I was all confused, everybody around me sounded really really loud, so I thought I she wouldn't hear me lol, I guess they weren't as loud as it sounded to me.

I do that all the time, it's embarrasing as Hell, isn't it? Of course now at my job I have the pleasure of being shhhed when the something is being announced over the intercom, which I naturally can't hear....where would we be without these hair pulling stories......

maybe I should try this.. I'll have to speak with my HA audie when I see her on Friday to get my FM.
