Is starting 6-0 or 9-0 the same thing in baseball, football, basketball, or hockey?

As you may know, in baseball, teams may series of 2,3, or 4 games before moving on to next team/city. In football, a team may play their opponents twice in first 6 or 9 games. In basketball and hockey, a team may play their opponent once in their first 6 or 9 games.

The question I'm trying to ask is whether starting 6-0 or 9-0 carries the same weight across different sports.

Yes it does. You see, in hockey and basketball, the opponents don't see each other as much as they do in baseball. That, and the fact that baseball requires a precise planning that other sports do not have. Also, baseball is 162 games; hockey and basketball are 82, and football is 16. One also has to consider the fact that there is a lot of strategy going on during a game; the managers want to win and hopefully reach the postseason, where winning the World Series is almost as good as winning sports most covoted trophy-- the Stanley Cup.

Percentage wise it might not carry the same weight because of the number of games each sport plays.

If I am understanding your question- you are asking if when two teams carry a 6-0 record and a 9-0 record in each sport does it carry the same weight across all sports...

I don't think it does- baseball there's 162 games so a 6-0 and 9-0 record doesn't really mean a whole lot as it's still early in the season. In football the schedule is far smaller so the same W/L ratio of 6-0/9-0 would be far more important in knowing how well a team is doing.

162 games in a season is insane lol. I'm amazed it hasn't topped 200 games yet :P

The playoffs are 12 games, and the preseason is about 35 games, so technically it does. IMO, anyway.

I'm totally with you DeafDucy. 9-0 in football means that you went more than half the season undefeated. 9-0 in baseball is really nothing considering how many more games there are to play. Also more games you play the bigger the risk for injuries. Teams that start off great can easily fall short if their big players get hurt.

I do have to admit though, that seeing the S.F. Giants leading the National Western Division in baseball this early is still totally amazing. Beating the L.A. Dodgers these last two games was friggin awesome.

I record my team playing then fast forward to all the good parts. Sitting for 3+ hours is too much. With the new "replay rule" the games have become even longer.

I was only speaking of the regular season, though all teams have the pre season, not all teams have the playoff games to worry about.

The bulk of the action in baseball at least is in the regular season. Pre-season is just that- warmups and don't even count towards the W/L record.

I need to find where I can watch the Phillies or the Mariners lol. No MLB teams where I live hmph.

As huge hockey fan, it is kind of easy for any teams to go 9-0 depending on how strong their schedule is.

Also it depends on how tough the divisions and/or conferences are.

Remember the playoffs season is always hugely different from the regular season.
