Is it bad that I only want to date deaf guys?

Hello! I am hearing and fluent in ASL. The other day this guy asked me out but I told him he wasn't my type. I didn't tell him this, but the real reason is because I would rather date a deaf guy. I have never dated a deaf guy before, however I feel like I would get along with a deaf man better. Does this make me weird or a bad person?

It would be kinda strange for hearing person want to date deaf guy only. Maybe you want to take advantage by learning sign language from him? Save your $$$ over college's ASL classes ? :lol:
 
That isn't the case at all! I'm majoring in ASL I've already been accepted to college. I would never date someone just to take advantage
 
A warning if you date a deaf guy he won't be able to hear you nag him. :D
 
I don't see the problem with it, as long as you know that its not a walk in the park and it takes patience, commitment and understanding on your part. All my exes were hearing and it was always a nightmare. My current girlfriend is hearing and absolutely amazing. She signs with me and we communicate extremely well :)

Differnnces is a real attraction for many couples. There are deaf like authenic you would want to avoid since he is not only deaf but russian and worse yet, living in san fran.
 
i think it patronizing.... some people not blind can read brail dont mean they going out of way to look for blind partner...just go for the person you love
 
follow your heart, not because you think it is so cool to date a deaf guy for the first time. FOLLOW YOUR HEART. Lots of wrong reasons that will cause the relationship fall apart and HURT.

Depends on why are you attracted to deaf men. Since the TV series "Switched at Birth" aired people just think it is so romantic! Just remember fantasties are over rated, and does not always end up as you dream it to be.

so true.Should ask herself why young deaf have high proportion of depression,it can come with territory of deaf person, also they may have expectations of you that you can not offer,..just go with flow who you meet

Ah, I just caught your Introduction thread. It answered the question I had.. You ARE a CODA so dating deaf is like dating within your own culture and it probably feels more comfortable for you. You also my find a hearing guy that knows ASL or is a CODA himself too.
In a way its a bit like saying as an American, I am not attracted to people of other countries/ cultures etc.
Therefore I think it is fine that you find yourself attracted to Deaf guys...

Just the memory I guess of being a young guy and now being much older and how and what motivates interest in the opposite sex. There is a lot of ways it all happens for people it is not my place to judge. I feel a bit sad for the young fella for some reason - the one that has not been selected yet.
