Hiya,

I'm a hearing gal who works in the same building as a deaf man. I've seen him around for approx. 6 months but in the last few months we've gotten chummier as I've become good friends with one of his co-workers.

We went out for a drink with a large group and he was lovely and he kissed me goodbye. I think he fancies me as he always tells me when he will be working at my building (he is mobile and goes to various sites), he touches me (pat on the back, gesturing and touching my arm to make a point) and asked my co-worker who had sent me a valentine card I had on my desk! But when I asked my friend for advice she said the touching might just be his "deaf" way of communicating.

I have to admit one big problem...talking to each other! He can read lips but we have a very difficult time talking and my face always goes red at having to make gestures and act things out! I want to learn though.

I have been waiting ages to see if he will ask me out but he hasn't and my other friend said she thinks he might assume I (as a hearing person) wouldn't go out with someone like him or he has low self esteem. So...............

Does it sound like he is interested or just being friendly?

Is there a way I can encourage him to make the first move?

If he doesn't make the move, is it acceptable to ask him out via email so there aren't any misunderstandings?

Does he know sign language? If he does, maybe learn some signs to get the ball rolling.

He does sound like he is interested.
