Does anyone know which box to get that close caption as I al ditching my cable ??

Closed caption are built into your tv. Just turn it on.

If the tv was made before 1993, you'll probably have to hunt down a caption box through something like eBay. No idea if they are sold through places like Harris Communications anymore. If the tv was made after 1993 then it's already built in like Botts said- check the tv onscreen menu.

I think I have the old caption decoder box one from 1982 and other smaller box probably either 1991 or 1992. Like DeafDucky says, the TV made in 1993 and after is built in with the 13 inch or larger TV.

(the middle one is what I had)

It is required for 13 inch or larger but you may well find it on a smaller one. I have a 7 inch that has it.

That can be possible in the late 90's or so... what's the age of your 7 inch TV?

Not sure of exact age - 5 or 6 years or so. It also has the digital tuning. I can use it with a cable from an outdoor antenna or other source as well as a rod type antenna that screws on or off to switch sources. I am tooooo far from any stations to use that though and have a cable from an outdoor antenna attached all the time.

Ok, the time in 1993, there was a minimum requirement of 13 inch or larger TV. With the recent technology say last 10 years we can have captions in small TV as well as smartphones (subtitles). Technology changes over the years.

My understanding is that the requirement for it to be on 13 inch or larger has not changed. But . . . there is enough demand that the manufactures started putting it on the really small ones.

Why are you emphasizing requirement? When they stated 13" or larger in their posts that pretty much implied required.

Can you ever let one of my posts go by anymore without disagreeing with it? It feels like you disagree with everything I post anymore just because I am the one that posted it, not because of what it says!

I have mentioned requirement because it is part of the law and not just industry practice.

The requirement was a law back in 1993.... that was old and outdated. Now, with today's the technology made it possible to have caption built in for the smaller TV's.

I have both the middle one and the bottom one. I know I still have the middle one... not sure if my parents kept the bottom one or not...hmm... That big brown one I had since I was a freshman in college...(mid 80s).

here's a history of captioning...
http://www.ncicap.org/about-us/history-of-closed-captioning/

I looked in amazon for a 7 in tv.. found in the Q&A that yes it does have captions, so would think that it's easier to do and I am sure that the law has been expanded enough to include anything under 13 inches since tablets now are part of our world-- so they'd need some method of captions also. Any tv manufactured in the last decade would have the caption chip.
