So.. I'm only 17, and I don't really know what I want to do with my life, but I always end up coming back to ASL as a possibility, a language that I actually understand, because I can never understand any language other than English when I hear it. I have to read it. (I'm pretty visual.)

If I should choose to pursue this, which at this rate I'm hoping I might, which schools would you recommend? I can always look up to see which schools actually have an interpreting program, but I just want to know what the bests choices would be. (I live in the South, by the way, and suggestions of schools in the Tennesse, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Arkansas type area would really help me out.)

i live in knoxville tennessee, and as far as i can tell, judging by the terps i see coming out of it, the terp program at UT is piss poor. ive not heard anything good about it.

however, down the road, a private school called Maryville colege, i have heard positive things about their terp program.

There's many different ITPs in the South I've looked at myself. Here's a list of th ones I know of.

Georgia Perimeter College-Atlanta, GA
Nashville State Community College-Nashville, TN
Tennessee Temple University-Chattanooga, TN
Chattanooga State-Chattanooga, TN
University of Arkansas at Little Rock-Little Rock, AR
Eastern Kentucky University-Lexington, KY
University of Tennessee-Knoxville, TN
Maryille College-Maryville, TN
Florida Community College at Jacksonville-Jacksonville, FL.

I'm sure there's several more, but these are all the one's I've looked into attending. Of the one's I've heard positive things about, EKU and GPC have been praised for having excellent programs, as well as UALR. The best thing you can do is just research and talk to as many people as you can, and make some campus visits. I've considered all these as possible colleges, but I've heavily leaned towards GPC.

I didn't get my ITP degree from Georgia Perimeter but I've attended several workshops there. They seem to have a good program at GPC.

Come to Arkie be a Trojan, LOL.

No seriously man, sit down, pray about it, think about it. If you can visit the schools you really like to get a feel for the campus and whichever one you feel the most comfortable at, choose that one.

*but I still think you should go to UALR* :D
