How do I remove the Internet Explorer from Windows XP?

You will need
A. A hard drive with windows 2000 sp1 or lower
B. The XP drive you want to IE remove IE remove from
C. Bios access to set the boot drive.
D. A copy of windows 98 or just IE 4.

Wow, I don't have those items, I guess I'll stuck with IE popups, otherwise I do the system-restore on my PC.

If IE are popping up on their own without you opening IE then you got a spyware or a virus on your computer so you would be best to try to remove it using spyware remover program and also check for virus using latest anti-virus program. If both fail to stop then system restore is last choice to do. IE7 does have anti-pop up but it not perfect and spyware or virus still can get around to it.

If you do have IE7 installed then you can go to tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced Tab then click on Reset ..... It will wipe all addons or javas or activex or flash imbedded into your IE7 and may or may not solve your problem.

It is possible to remove IE from XP but you will lose and probably break a quite a few functions on XP OS in doing so. You will be running a crippled XP OS and future security patches may need IE to patch your XP OS.

If your wanting to remove IE because your concern about security flaws in it then you are no more secured with Firefox or Opera or any other browser than you are with IE .. Security flaws isn't a browser thing it's XP OS thing so basically it a waste of time or effort to try to remove IE and keeping XP OS stable. For Security concerns, your best bet is to install a linux distro OS instead.

Good Luck!

I would advise against removing IE from your computer because it is integrated with the OS.

Well if it for me, I'd leave IE alone and use other browser such as FireFox, Safari, or Opera for example.

:werd:

IE is actually part of Windows, not just an extra program.

Why would you want to remove it in the first place? If you prefer a different browser, then use that other browser instead.

I use Firefox. I have a shortcut for Firefox on my desktop. I simply open that whenever I want to go online. :)

Yup, I used to tried remove the IE in 2005 on Windows then my PC was crashed so badly and tried to boot up then noticed about so unsable and end up to recovery the computer, I decided to left it, IE is struck with Windows.

You can delete the shortcut but cannot remove on entire of it, unlike other OS, such as IE on Mac OS can be removed so easily without any annoying or stable issue.

Now I got my PC restored, everything goes back to normal, except every time I scroll up/down on the internet page (ie, firefox) and there is the invisible line loads up the whole screen. How to fix this? I think the video card caused the problem?!?

Is your pc/graphic card overclocked? It does seem like a hardware problem to me. If you have a spare video card laying around, you could try it? Or, if your PC has an onboard video, you could try removing your AGP/PCI-E or whatever card that is connected to your motherboard and use the onboard video display.

Oh NO, MAN!

My great experinces, I actual learned my lesson I shouldn't removed it from the Window. I had re-foametted HDD. So I never do it again.

Never, Never, Never terminate the Internet Explorer from Windows OS. If Once you did remove it from OS, There will cause issue like miss files/DLLs and not right function. Foxfire will be dys-function.

So I hope you find a solve with your comptuer..

Good luck, ;)

You can delete the shortcut ....
Yes, that's what I did. IE is still listed in programs if I need to use it but at least it's not cluttering up my desktop.
