Hi, my name is Scott and I am not deaf, though i am a little hard of hearing thanks to my moms genetics. I have a favor to ask of anyone who is willing to help. I am taking a Psychology of Disability class at Fresno State and I need to interview two people who are deaf and just ask a list of questions that the professor has lined up for us. I dont know anyone who is deaf where I live and was wondering if anyone would be willing to help me. Please, if you can, email me at escj20@hotmail.com Thanks Scott

Well, I don't know about the Pschology of Disabilities. We are not disable except not to hear so we are more able bodied people who are capable of taking care of ourselves just fine. We are visual people. You will have to clarify us with your interest in our deafness, like are you interest in ASL (American Sign Language)? Are you also taking the course in ASL class? Not disabilities, except we do have some Aders who are in wheelchairs and Deaf. No one here in AllDeaf forum don't like to use the word "Disablities" very well. You will have to post us here in the threads instead of e-mail. See you around.

Psychology of Disability is a good phrase because it is one of two psychological beliefs:

A) "I can't because..." and I know a lot of "able bodied hearing people" who have it.

B) "You can't because..." and if you have never been around Deaf people it is quite possible you have it. The title of your course suggests your instructor may have it.

Most people here, hearing and Deaf, do not subscribe to this psychology.

Rather than filling out a questionnaire and running off why don't you stick around, make some friends, and learn a bit about the real world outside of class?

You can probably find out the answers to your questions by searching through old threads. At one time or another almost everything has been discussed here at length. You will gain much more understanding.
