My fingers form the letters of my name
I use the “Y” hand-shape to sign ‘the same’
I lower my eyebrows when I ask ‘why?’
I look up when I tell about the sky
I have a new way to understand
Thanks for putting language in my hands
and when I sign, I make it flow
I use two fingers to tell you where to go
I look at the signer’s face, when he speaks;
never at the hands, the ears nor the feet
I have a new way to comprehend
Thanks for putting language in my hands
If I needed his attention, all I do is tap
never poke or wave big and certainly never snap
If he asked me how I was, I would tell him “fine”
and if I forgot any words, I would start to mime
I have a new way to understand
