.. my mind again.

I am frustrated at the brainless choice of smiles in the display. I don't even care anymore that my underage daughter may see these accidently.
What p88ses me off is that a few times when I wanted to use simple smiling smiles there are none there!!!!!!!

I am not going to waste my time to open and reopen window, just to post a stupid smilie that should be available at hand!

every other forum on the 'net, they have most used smiles at hand! but not here, can someone explain WHY?

so, according to what is available today all day:

I am mad:
:buk:

I am now smiling :69:

I wanted to show "I don't know": :rl:

and my general frustration I am showing with this smilie:

who the heck is using these ???

Come on, moderators, THINK !!!!!
Fuzzy

:dunno:

I think emoticion is harmless. It doesn't bother me really but one important is: Real Porn!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm really glad that Admin. use dirty pictures etc. in Adult section, that's I won't open Adult section until my children go to bedtime or go out with their mates.

curious question:
How's old is your daughter?

It is not just a problem about children viewing.

Sometimes I would like to check on AllDeaf while I am at work all day but I have to use the college computer lab. I don't dare open up AD and risk someone seeing nasty emoticons, avatars, and sigs. I could get into big trouble doing that. People using public or work computers have to be very careful.

It is all about self-control. You do realise you have the power to go to Control Panel and editing your own features to disable the viewing of avatars, signatures and so on. ADers should realise that viewing AD during work time isn't an appropiate idea because some threads are not considered "WS" ("work safe"). Trying to control 100 people isn't feasible when you can control your own, 1 person, it works.

Thanks for the tip. I just now found and tried the "Edit Options". It does get rid of the avatars and sigs but it still leaves the emoticons/smilies viewable.

I don't use a computer while I am actually working. I use it only during my lunch break. Certain threads I never open no matter where I am.

I am not trying to "control" anyone. I was just stating that it is a problem. I have to accept the fact that I can't visit AD on my work days. During the summer my schedule is easy but starting this fall I might have very limited time that I can visit AD from my home computer.

I wouldn't check on AllDeaf at work either! I used to go to Ebay at work but I got too nervous when my boss kept coming in. My co-worker in the same room also got on ebay all the time but her computer faced the back of the room and mine faces the door. Not fair!

Personally I don't like the "rude" emoticons. I remind myself they're just smileys but they still bother me. But overall I really like AD!

:buttsex:

I JUST want to have "normal" emoticons available AT HAND !!!! that's all!!

never mind these are inapropriate at public display!! come to think of it if I wanted to I would probably find a law saying it's offensive and against the law. The way you can not just can not put up a naked picture in your window for public to see! the police will come and say either take it down or you'll be charged.

:bj:

But never mind that. why the heck can't I have " lol, rotflmo, don't know, sad, crying, scared, shocked" etc emoticons anytime when I need to use them,
but I have at least 3 fornicating or masturbating ones all the time??!!

who's using them, except maybe on adult section???

where is the common sense, because about the rudeness and inappropriatness right now I don't care??
To the moderator of this forum- :buk: for your good job.

Kathy

for the lack of proper emoticon here's the meaning of the ones I used:

HELLO - :buttsex:

ANGRY - :bj:

THANK YOU - :buk:

and , the BIG QUESTION:
:gives:

does anybody??

I kinda see what audiofuzzy is saying....I think that there should be two pop-up windows for the smiles....one should be for most used/most popular smiles...and then a section for the x-rated smilies too!

its been said over and over abt that... whilist i agree with the poeple on the work front, what about those who are at home, and have kids and they want to use the smilies and ended up getting the sexual implications shown on there. i agree with deafdyke put the smilies one adult for adult only and the regular smilies for other areas this way theres NO problems and no embarrassment...

I don't think viewing AD at work is the issue, but I do see your point, otherwise. I must admit I'm bothered by alot of the emoticons as well. However, I choose to ignore them and not use them.

We have visited the emoticon issue in the past, and we've already voted on it. I think we're pretty much stuck with them as is. Like Cookie said, we all have it in our power to decide to use them or not. If you don't like them, simply ignore them.

Well said, OB! Just simply ignore the smilies that bothers you. Yes, I admit some of the smilies are too explicit and I wouldn't dare open AD in front of my niece or nephews in fear of having an explicit smilie pop up! However, I can't tell other ADers what to do with their smilies, avatars and/or signatures but I can go to my CP panel and disable those features.

If you could, tell me how to do this. I would like to disable the smilies that I find offensive. Not only for my own comfort level, but to shield the kids from seeing something I would have to answer for. LOL ("What's that?!) . I don't usually open AD when the kids are around, but my nephew likes to play on the computer. He's five. He also is becoming quite the computer nerd, and KNOWS how to access my favorite places. This kid can't even read yet, but he knows his way around AOL. He has seen me access my favorites enough that he has it down. Maybe, I'm overly paranoid, but the last thing I need is for the child to find AD in my favorites, click it, and see all these cool emoticons (Because, to a five year old, cartoon characters are DA BOMB), and I'm up to my neck in the five Ws!

NO THANK YOU! LOL

peeps, please bear with me for a minute and pay attention.

This is not a matter of choosing to use THEM or ignore them,
the point is I DON'T HAVE A CHOICE of emoticons here!!
The ones I need, and not only I, are usually not there!!

Here are thesee
:bj:
:buttsex:
:buk:
:gives:
:nono:

and would you please tell me where is LOL, where is SAD where is CRY, where is ROTFLMO, the Most Commonly used emoticons? can you find them in the midst of this perpetual orgy?

what the heck we need these for, why are they displayed here is beyond me. Why somebody believes it's HANDY to have these in this little window on the right but not other is beyond me.

It is NOT a matter of me wanting to use these or not, Even if I choose NOT to use these I don't have the ones I want.

Do you understand?

And these other problems like children watching and peeps at work watching only adds to the whole nonsense.

I vote - put the MOST COMMONLY USED emoticons in the box here and all the others in the close/open window. I want to see LOL, SAD, CRY, ROTFLMO, JUMPING/excited, DONT'KNOW, WAVE HELLO, SORRY, RUN AWAY etc at hand at all times. Not these sex addicts.

Plase show me - who and where is using these besides Adult section?

Fuzzy,

The emoticons that show up on the right are the ones that are most commonly used for that day. If you want other emoticons, click the more link, then find the emoticons you're looking for. That's the best you can do. I don't think there's a solution to the sexually explicit emoticons, because, like I said, we've already hashed this one out. It's been voted upon, and the emoticons are staying.

Are you telling me the most popular were these:
:69:
and other like that?

(need fainting emoticon)...

Yes we have LOL, SAD, CRY, ROTFLMO... here...
:tears:  :P :thumb: ;) :giggle: :bye: :dance2: :ily:

You don't have to. It's your own decision either you want to pick or not...

And these other problems like children watching and peeps at work watching only adds to the whole nonsense.

Remember that it's not only just emoctions but nudity poster, newspapers or magazine everywhere in the stores etc.

What I find annoying is that the smilies is totally random. What I think the "Smilies" area should be is the most common, non x rated and not random in there. Also what is annoying is when you click on "More" in the Smilies area, all the smilies isn't in the same place, so you have to look all over the place to find the smilie you're looking for. IMO, it's not very user friendly. So, in short, I just gave up trying to use smilies here.

EDIT: I just now notice the smilies isn't totally random this time, has this been changed to stop being random?

Ohhh Liebling echoes my sentiments! You will find nudity everywhere, not just in this forum in the form of emoticons but you will find it in the telly, newspapers, skin magazines and so on.

You do not have to use the emoticons because no one is forcing you to. (I sure hope not!!)

AudioFuzzy, the more you go on and on about this issue which was discussed before, think! Instead of being reactive in the form of whining, try being proactive and taking this concern of yours up with the forum administrator.
