My name is Tiffanie and I'm mommy to Micheala 9 who has auditory processing disorder and Alex 3 months who (we just found out today) has a severe hearing loss in both ears. I have no idea how to teach my husband and daughter and myself how to handle Alex's hearing loss. Any ideas? He is going back to the ENT tomorrow and will be sent to Charlotte for more in depth testing. :sadwave:

Check with local school for the deaf or resource program to see if they offer something like Parent Infant Program (PIP). For example, in Utah, we have Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind, which has PIP and that program works closely with parents sending parent advisors to discuss about deafness and deaf issues and also deaf mentors who teach parents sign language and deaf culture. I wonder if North Carolina has something similar. It wouldn't hurt to find out, and I am sure it will be an enormous help for you.

Hi,

Welcome to AD and enjoy your stay here.....

I'm not sure which part you meant by handling your son's hearing loss, but you can always ask the doctor if CI implant will help your son to hear a bit more or to check into hearing aids too, also you and your husband can attend sign language classes to learn how to sign....There are programs out there that can help you too also we have threads here in AD that may have information for you to learn how to raise a child who has hearing loss....

G'day tands619

Welcome to AD. I hope you'll derive some useful information here.
I think it's good you've discovered Alex's hearing loss as you can get him into early intervention services which'll help. I hope you'll get the help you'll need.
Cheers!

Hello and welcome to Alldeaf tands619! Threading into a new area will most likely be quite challenging for you and family, with persistance and reverence, the rewards will also be one of great joy and satisfaction over time again and again...with that, AD is a good place to turn to for some useful resources and viable information that could help along the way as you raise up your child. Anyhow, hope your stay here in AD will be an enjoyable one as well! ;)

 :welcome: Hello Tands619 and welcome to AD. I was going to suggest the exact same thing, glad that Kuifje75 did. These programs will help you a lot and educate you at the same time. Take Kuifje75's advice, as time goes on, everything will fall into place. You and your family will all be fine. It's like trying to walk, once you take that first step, you're on your way!!! I wish you and your family all the best!!!

Have a great day!!!
