Hello to everyone. I am a college student attending ASL classes. I am not deaf, I am hearing. I am trying to complete a project for class and I would love to get some input and chat!
I was wondering what everyone uses as far as telephones for communicating? We had to use a TTY phone to make a call and I thought it would be easy but it wasn't. Everytime I went to find one it was broke, they didn't have one or they didn't know what I was talking about. And then when I did get a hold of one it seemed to take forever because I am not exactly a fast reader or typer! Lets just say that it was different for me!!
I am also trying to teach my 2 year old daughter ASL as well. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to teach her?

Welcome to AllDeaf! Don't think you can't get into the forum just because you're hearing! There are plenty of hearing members here. (I'm hearing, for example, and look at my post count!)

An increasingly popular form of long-distance communication is the video phone (VP for short). It allows two people to sign to each other, and it plugs into the TV. A deaf user of a VP can either call someone who has a VP directly, or they can call an interpreter to talk to a hearing person (similar to TTY relay operators). Hope this helps! Hi. I, myself, prefer to use the emails. Mainly because the emails give me time to compose and correct my spellings. I have a TTY but I find it something of a pain in the neck at times. Nowaday I mainly use the TTY to call goverment offices so I can have a record of our conversations. I haven't tried the video phone yet but I've heard wonderful things about it.
