If you had a choice wouldd u do a course at your local college or do the same course at a uni 3 hours away so u can get the student experiencE and all the goodness you get? I'm in the UK by the way

Definitly the student experiance. College is just so much more then higher level classes........I met some amazing people and had some amazing times at college!

It all depends on what you're comfortable with. Do you think that you'd enjoy being a part of a large campus or a smaller one? Do you prefer large lecture halls filled with 200+ students or small classrooms of 20-25? I attend the second largest university in my state and the student population is 35,000. Lectures have 150-200 students while discussion sections have 25-30. When I was a freshman, I really loved being a part of a large campus environment, but now that I'm older, I prefer more of a one-on-one relationship with my professors. I love the diversity found on a large campus, but you can still find that in a small college campus as well. If I were you, I'd write down all of the pros and cons of a large university vs. a small college. Take a look at your list and decide at that point which environment would suit you best.

The course that I'm talking about is a course that helps you get the qualifactions needed to progress onto a university course the following year. as i dont currently have the qualifactions i though this may help.

the local college that does this is supposedly really rubbish. the uni that offers this course is deaf aware, so is the college. At the uni i'd be able to get Disabled student allowance to help me pa for the notetakers, 'terps etc. the course is free in both places its just accomodation and living fees i would have to pay. but if i do go to the uni ill be living away from home and experiencing the student life which doesnt bother me but i dont know how my mum would feel about it because my sister is going to uni in sept too and if i go too then she'll be alone, and i will get worried about her. i dont know which to choose but i do think this course is for me but whre to study it i do not know.

In that case, I would elect to attend university. I know you worry about your mother being alone, but (I don't mean to sound harsh -- I just don't know any other way to put this) sooner or later she is going to have to realize that you are a grown adult who won't be living under her roof anymore. I had the same concerns when I moved out of the house at age 18, but I knew that if I didn't do it then, I probably never would.

I cannot make my mind up. i think ill need to talk to my mom, I'm a very indecisive person and find it very hard to make decisions. (sighs)

Well you can keep in touch via the phone and email....and if the uni isn't too far away you can return for long weekends. I did that a lot, and that was fun.

IMO, community college...get the core classes out of the way, then you can focus on experiencing the fun side of college.

I don't know about UK but in the US, community college is usually a lot easier and cheaper.

core classes?

i think i am going to apply for my local classes AND apply for a job then the first offer i get ill take it

college is free here, the course ill be on is free because im eligible for not having to pay

I would go with what gives me the requirements for my major. If both has it, then I'd go with whichever is cheaper. If the one closest to home is cheaper, that's where I'll go. If the furthest is cheaper, I'll go there instead.

this is completely different from the course im studying at the moment, i just want to do this course so i can hopefully progress onto university in 2010

Are you taking what we call a developmental or remedial course to bring your current skills up to college level work?

I'm at uni in the UK, doing mental health nursing. The disability officers there have been very helpful and supportive. They helped me apply for Disabled Students Allowance and even put pressure on the NHS bursary people to pay up, so I could get my equipment and accommodations sooner. If you choose to go to uni get in touch with the disability people as soon as possible.

Is it an access course you are thinking of doing? That's what I did.

Im doing the access course at my local college in sept hopefully for a year then going to go uni in sept 2010

Good luck with the course, I'm sure you'll do well. The tutors on my access course were very good, they would go over things loads of times until everyone understood.

iv decided to try for the uni access course. I emailed them fri, currently waiting for a email for a date for the interview so theyll tell me if i can get onto the course.

The experience of a real college environment is really great, and really important. I would definitely go with the college a bit far away, if it was affordable with transportation and the school itself.

i have got an appointment very soon at the Uni im looking at to go to. Fingers Crossed!!
There arent any entry requirements, you just have to go to an interview.
