I Thought It Was Just A Light Decoration...

Why would he buy a house with HOA? It is a dumb mistake. I used to own a brand new townhouse with HOA, and they kept giving me fine for washing my car in the back of alley, putting trash can outside on NON TRASH DAY, and so on. Two years later I sold my townhouse. I definitely not want to live under HOA control ever again.

HOA is anti-freedom.

HOA is anti-freedom.

HOA isn't always anti-freedom.

Most are good. Just have to review the HOA rules before moving in.

HOA is usually there to maintain the value of your homes.

I knew a guy who moved in a house in a neighborhood that looked beautiful. As the years went by, neighbors changed.

One neighbor would have a bunch of lawn ornaments on his yard. Another neighbor always left his smelly fishing boat on his front driveway. Another was a house with college students that always had parties and would have piles of trash bags with bottles and cans sitting by the curb on non-trash days.

This made the neighborhood look unwelcome. Since there was no HOA, there were no guidelines. When he was ready to move, the value of his house was actually less than it was when he paid for it.

There are always risks with no HOA, but with HOA... it helps to research their HOA beforehand.

Yeah, my second house had a HOA and didnt allow trucks in the driveway, I had a Monster 4x4, nice truck, not a POS that wouldnt fit in the garage (too tall) they kept complaining and I kept telling them. So they started sending warnings then a fine, I wouldnt pay it ( was ran by a lady the next block over ) well, she never seen the truck but only heard the complaints from neighbors and so one day the group came to collect. I walked out, explained the truck wouldnt fit in the garage. She looked at the truck and said thats a nice truck, turned and looked at the neighbor and asked why the hell they are stiring shit up when my truck isnt a beat up work truck and that I have really brought the house back from the dead ( it was neglected and foreclosed when I bought it ) so then and there she exempted me.

Even with support from Riverside's mayor, the association put a new set of "Holiday Display" rules in place, essentially banning Judd from reviving his display again at his current location.

How about this? It was not on the HOA guideline before he purchased his house. The article said "new set of rules".

My HOA policy didn't say anything about not allowing to do some woodwork inside of my garage and they gave me a warning for that and I told them there's no way I can find rules in hoa policy book, they said I am distracting other neighbors. I am not going to get a lawyer over this. Selling townhouse was the best decision I ever made.

Had a neighbor complain about my shed that I ordered. Upon delivery I painted it to make sure it matched my house.

Since the house was on a hill we put it in the backyard on the side of the house. From the street it was impossible to see. The house to the north had only one window that could see the shed and that was the bathroom window. That was the ONLY possible way you could see the shed if you were not in the backyard.

Neighbor complained about the shed's sidings. It was vertical, not horizontal like the house.

HOA? Never again.

I seen something like this before and not as many lights as people think...
if doing it as one offs at holiday time for happy mood no see problem but if everynight then I shoot fusebox

I live in a condo and the one of rules is if you're doing any work on the outside your unit like replacing the sliding door it has to be brown to match the rest of the buildings . People are putting in white sliding doors now and I am wondering if this will hurt the value of condos ,b/c some people like living in building that all look the same. I would hate having that house in the video across the street from my house. I can't stand having flashing lights coming into my home.

What a cool show. It's like watching a band concert like RUSH. I see why HOA had disapproved of this. To be honest, it's a family friendly show and I see nothing wrong with it. That's my personal opinion.

what's the hell is HOA??

Homeowner Association.

My brother lives in one of the expensive suburban areas with HOA. If you want to paint your house, you have to ask permission. HOA offer only three different color paint for your house. HOA just doesn't want you to paint purple house. lol

My friend owns a house with HOA. She wasn't allowed to rent family members except strangers.

Some people do not like the music or having flashing lights shine into their homes. It would be horrible if other people did it too .

It's a light show that might be fun to visit but it could be rough to live across the street from all that noise and flashing lights. Our family room has four full-length windows facing the street, and our living room and master bedroom each have two full-length windows facing the street. Even with the shutters closed, it could be bothersome, especially if there's also a lot of car traffic out front. For hearing people, that music could get old real quick, too. Maybe they could at least limit the hours that they run their show.

Viewing it on youtube is fun but living with it . . . I don't know.

I read that the music is broadcast thru car radios, not thru outdoor speakers, so that's a little better. But 2,000 visitors per night? Yikes!

I can see why some people wanted this taken down , that is a nightmare.
