I am hard of hearing, 18 and a senior in Highschool in grove city, Ohio. I am the only one in my family that has a hearing problem and I live only with my father, I dont have a job but I do have alot of trouble keepin up with my hearing aid due to moisture from running crosscountry in HS sports, because the Supero 413 AZ are faulty, not made for an Active person! but I need help in many ways like finding grants, fundings or whatever for hearing aid supplies such as a strobe light fire alarm and other things that I would need if I am going to be living by myself, I have a 98 and a 95 hearing loss in both ears. I wear hearing aids the manjority time of the day and let them rest in the dryer at night. But can anyone here please help me. thanks

AthleticAndy, Your not the only one... If your doing Crosscountry in High School, I suggest you to keep your hearing aids out.. Give them to your parents to hold or whatever is the safest place to keep your hearing aids.. I used to be in Track in Middle School, I always kept my hearings aids out due of moisture..... I lip read so it's not a problem for me to keep my hearing aids out while running and etc. If you lip read good then you should do perfectly fine.. When your done then put it back in..

About the equipments... If you want it for free, you will have to apply to see if your egliable for it... Look in your state or area for "Department of Services for the deaf and hard of hearing" Pull up and application and fill it out... they will ask for your income and etc... to see if your egliable for it. I got mine all for free.. ( TTY phone, alarm clock, weather alert.... ) The only thing I don't got is a fire alarm... Which I will prolly have to pay it out of my pocket which isn't a biggie. If you don't get these items for free then I suggest you to go online to buy the equipments. But Im sure on AD there is plently of people who can give you more details on it.. You will do just fine!! Hope things work out for you!!.. Have you thought about asking VR thru your HS??

theres a lot of grants for that too in college that will help and like royal says VR is good... VR usually is very very helpful. VR is paying for my cochlear implant cuz my medicare and medicaid wont cover anything more than routine visits.

you also can check with SSI and see if they are willing to give u medicaid or medicare and see if they are willing to cover for ur equipment.

Also! in some states like Wisc they have program where you pay 100 bucks and they give u 800 bucks worth of equipment u need which is awesome ... in Wisc it called tepp and ohio do not have that but u might have one in your state. (yes 800 worth of equipment also includes hearing aid and other stuff like alarm and stuff. )

athleticandy88--I live in Chillicothe, have a 20 year old son who is profoundly deaf, and also work a college in the Office of Instituional Equity. If you will pm me and give me details of what you need, I will do anything I can to help you.

Forgot to say--I am only about 45 minutes from Grove City.
