Hello everyone, I'm new here so very nice to meet you.

I'm writting my thesis about captioned movies and I need some help to establish how captions should be in order to make movies more enjoyable. I need some volunteers to answer a few questions about a 4 minutes captioned movie.
PLEASE, It won't take you much and that would help me a lot!!! I can't finish my thesis without data.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.

This is the questionnaire, in case you can help me:

THANK YOU for helping me to conduct this study. As you surely know, many times captions in movies are very badly done. They are oftentimes done by people who can hear and don't realize that people with auditory problems have different needs. In this study I intend to critique the quality of some captions and to come up with methods to improve them, so that in the future, everyone can enjoy watching movies with less effort. Thank you again your participation can make a difference!
When you complete the questionnaire, send it to elbalinares@gmail.com
If there are any questions that you don't know how to answer or you don't want to answer, please write N/A.

A) Personal Information

Sex:
Age:
Language (English, Spanish, Sign language,
Do you read lips?):
Type of hearing problem (deaf, hearing impaired, from birth, acquired):
Are your parents and/or anyone else in your family deaf as well?

B) Watch the video in the link below:

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/yy9s3g08pdzx0kw/J63UaOLM4-?m#f:Jpmp4.mp4

C) After watching the video, please answer the following questions:

1. What do you think about the captions? Are they easy to understand? Are you able to enjoy the movie with them?

2. Did you have time to read all the captions comfortably? Were the captions too fast, too slow? Too much text at once?

3. Do you have the feeling that all the sounds are reflected in the captions?

4. Was the undistinguished use of English and Spanish confusing? If yes, would the use of italics have helped or would you prefer a comment saying (voices speaking Spanish)?

5. Was the vocabulary clear and precise?

6. Did you know who was talking at every moment? Can you think of any way that it could have been made more clear (colors, hyphens for each person)?

7. Do you like the font? If not, why? Which one do you prefer?

8. Do you like the use of smiley signs on captions :) :( to indicate the moods?

9. Do you like the way the captions are presented (continuously moving) or do you prefer when they are centered?

10. Are there things that you would change? Please, write anything you can think of to improve the captions.

Thank you for completing the questionnaire. If you know anyone else that can help, please forward this questionnaire or send me their email.

I don't think captions are uniquely a Deaf issue.

Language students, hearing or not, need captions because speech can be too difficult to decipher due to unfamiliar accents or unusual pronunciations. Also, sometimes they can use the caption to be exposed to new words.

Some people prefer subtitles in order to appreciate a foreign movie while preserving the native language of the actors, or because the dub is unacceptable.

I also do not understand why you need personal information.
Are you trying to determine if there is an age or sex-based bias in caption desire??? How is this relevant to the quality of a caption?

What have you read about Deaf culture & CC? How about equal access? You haven't mentioned any research you have done about deaf people. how can you be sure you are asking the correct questions for your survey without more research into the topic?

Edit: Agh! I forgot to check the thread post date. Sorry for bringing up such an old thread -_-. I see everyone else managed to ignore it so well... I ruined it. Now I really wish there was delete option.
