I am enrolled in an ASL-Deaf Culture class and my teacher is Leslie Greer. I have an assignment to find a hoh or Deaf person that went to both public and Deaf school and ask them 5 questions. I have been posting this all over but can't get a response so I will post them here.

1) How do people react when they find out your Deaf or heard of hearing?
2)How supportive were your teachers throughout school?
3) Is your family supportive of ASL? Please explain?
4) What would you like the hearing community to know about the Deaf community?
5) Have you heard of the word Audism? If so, please explain your thoughts?

Have you searched the forums? I am sure I have seen (some or all of) this discussed before.

I don't mean this to sound rude - but....

The purpose of these type of assignments is for ASL students to start interacting in person with Hoh and Deaf persons in their area. The point is for you to start using the ASL that you've learned, and figure out how to bridge the communication gap when you aren't able to explain something in ASL (doing so helps hearing ASL students understand some of the communication challenges that many/most Hoh/d/Deaf individuals face on a daily basis.)

If you really want to learn ASL, and about Deaf Culture and the Community ... then look for people in your community to ask - if you are taking classes ask the teacher if there are other teachers you could ask, if there is a school for the deaf (you ask the adults there, NOT the minor student unless you have the school and parents approval) etc.

Making connections locally is one of the main reasons these assignments are given - otherwise it's just a "Google exercise" if you know what I mean :(
