I'm hoping that this is the right category for this! If not I do apologize! (Just let me know and I will delete this post!) But I'm hearing and learning ASL. I've been interested in it ever since I was little and was close friends with a girl who was deaf and signed. I thought it was probably one of the most amazing things I had ever seen! A dance wit her fingers where she made art. That's how I saw it! Well, I've been genuinely focusing hard in trying to learn it and I'm trying to convince my best friend to learn it as well! She got really sick once and the tympanic membrane blew out in her right ear. (All in front of me which was a scary experience!) but she is now deaf in that ear and her hearing in her left ear isn't the best. She was given hearing aids which she doesn't think are comfortable and doesn't want them. She says they sound weird. Recently she got sick again and her left ear started having the beginning signs of what happened to her right ear and I'm scared that she will lose hearing in that ear next. Thankfully she still has it! But...what I'm getting at with this whole story that probably bore you guys (to which I am soooooo sorry!) is that I want her to not feel uncomfortable about her being deaf in one ear. That there is nothing wrong with it! I would love for her to learn ASL just in case but I don't know how to go about it.
