I go to a new audiologist in the AM.

They are going to talk to me and do all the fun tests that they do.:D

When I called them to set up the appt the person on the phone was very nice to me and took her time with some questions I had. Supposedly there is only 1 audiologist there and I kinda like that. I always think the smaller places tend to treat you better and spend more time...at least thats been my experience with doctors and dentists.

Anyway I have some questions I will ask tommorrow but I thought I'd ask some of you that have been there done that... what kinds of questions should I ask? Anything that you didn't ask, that you wish you did your first appt?

Oh, and what makes a good audiologist? Thanks!

wish my audiologist was a small office.. but nope, since 2 practices merged together, it's just BUSY BUSY BUSY.

Ask the audiologist to give you a full audiometric test and test for all 11 frequencies from 125Hz to 8000Hz in both ears. Also ask him about BAHA for your dead ear. Ask him to give you a speech test(spondee, HINT, CNC) in your good ear. You should score high, if not, ask about auditory processing disorder. My dad has worse hearing than you and understands 90% speech.

LOL I have no clue what you just said....:giggle:

Can you explain it better for me? Are these normal tests that they would do anyway when I go in?

auditory processing disorder? humm I'll have to go check up on that...google here I come!! :dance2:

Definately asking about a baha when I go...I already asked that on the phone and she said only 1-2% of people qualify for it and they would test me if they think I do.

Holy crap...that sounds like me!!!! There is a lot that I identify with the symptoms and the info I read on AUD/CAPD! A light bulb just went off in my head...

There is SOOO much I DON'T know! I would have NEVER known this if you hadn't told me!

I feel dumb...

Is there anything else I should research? I bet there is...a lot! :D

Wow I didn't know only 2% qualify for a BAHA! Is that 2% based on the general population or is it 2% of everyone with single sided deafness or a major conductive loss?

Your audiologist should give you an SRT test based on spondee words. Ask what other speech tests he can give. The HINT and CNC are two popular speech tests. I should take those tests myself next time I visit an audiologist.

Also ask about auditory processing disorder with your audiologist. Id like to chat to you, have you posted your AIM handle in my blog so I can find you online? I can teach you alot!

I think she said what 2% but I can't remember...I had my son and her talking to me at once through some of our conversation...so of course I may have missed something. I'll find out tommorrow though...

I don't have AIM...I have yahoo.. But I can get it. Thanks for the info! I'll KUP on my app tommorrow, I hope it goes well.
