Boy, 3, dies after crawling into hot car to look for a toy
Houston police said a 3-year-old boy died after crawling into a hot car to look for a toy.
How does anyone know what the boy was doing since he's dead and can't tell them?

If the family knew he was searching for a toy, why was no one with him outside?

Police were treating little Evan Trapolino’s death in north Houston as a tragic accident and didn’t expect to file criminal charges, Fox 26 reported Thursday.

Evan couldn’t get out because the rear doors of the car had child safety locks, the station reported.
How did he get into the car?

“A friend of theirs showed up and found him in the car, and they started doing CPR,” family friend Chris Johnson told the station.

He said no one saw or heard Evan wander outside. The car was parked in the driveway of the Trapolino home.
No one missed the boy all that time?

“Everybody is wanting to rip the family apart,” Johnson said. “How can you leave your kid in a hot car like that? That’s not the case.”

The National Weather Service reports the temperature in Houston about that time was 94 degrees, but it felt like 102 degrees.
How long was he in the car?

1) 3 years old can be very sneaking like I did.

2) The family probably too busy or don't care about child.

3) 3 years old can open the unlocked car to enter, but can't exit.

4) If 3 years old is sneaking into somewhere so parents won't know about where are him, so they could think that he is in bedroom.

5) 3 years old is small and it is easily to get overheat, eventually heat stroke so it could happen in less than hour.

Houston and rest of Texas are extremely hot with high heat in summer.

The question is... how long was the kid unsupervised?... why would one think the boy was looking for a toy? A lot of unanswered questions to this story.

Looking for a toy - that makes me wonder unless the toy was already in the car and the family put two and two together- doesn't mean it's wrong or right.

did the article say what kind of car? Having a hard time seeing how a 3 year old can open the door that easily especially on SUVs (going by the vague memory of how big my nephew was at that age (wouldn't know it now- he's closing in on 6' at 13...).

That's what I was thinking about the car door if a toddler able to open and close on their own.

I'm not saying they did anything wrong but there are a lot of unanswered questions.

Agree- I'll wait until there's more info before I say anything else. Sadly people are still going to shame the poor parents.

I agree 3 year olds are con and escape artists, but even with 3 kids I have never let my 3 year old outside. Plus I have never meet a 3 year old who can close the door from the inside and very few who can't figure out how to reopen it from the inside, unless child lock was on.

I saw this on the news but didn't get the whole story , I would love to know where the police got the info about the poor child was looking for a toy, they had to gotten it from someone . We don't seem to be getting all the facts here. , if the child safety locks were set doesn't that keep a child from getting into a child too?
How tragic and I really think the police should keep this case open it's too fishy to me ! :(

Is it from news on TV?

If the boy was able to crawl into the back of car he should had been able to crawl back in the front of car and gotten out.

I'm sure but with a 3 year old, their ability to think logically in that kind of situation isn't developed yet.

with the way you describe it though, trying to picture just exactly what the kid did and how he managed to be locked INSIDE the car. No 3 year old has that strength to open a car door...that I know of. So I'm really questioning the whole thing...

My (almost) 3 year old can open a car door.

Reba is right .. this is suspicious. For one thing, If it is my responsibility to watch my 2 boys, I know exactly where they are and what they are doing. I don't let them wander. My (almost) 3 year old has to ask me if he wants to go outside and play, and when he does, I can see him through the window.

I do NOT just let him wander.

If he wants a toy, and can't find it, he comes to me and asks me to help him look for it.

I do not like this thread. I don't see the point in rehashing what happened to this child. None of us were there to know the true circumstances.

Ditto to AlleyCat, there's no video footage online nor do we know of any more details on what occurred. And if by some miracle you figure out some working theory are you going to call the police and tell them you cracked the case?

Based off your previous post, then you should...

Only if I cracked the case, which I have not.

there is a man in my State that left his child inside a hot car all day long - he claimed it was "accidental". It was not.

I absolutely HATE people who do that, and I hope he gets locked up in a hot car until he dies.

Is this guy that was to drop his baby of at daycare on his way to work and he forgot his baby was in the car ? I never believe that story ! There was another tragic story on the news about a child being left in a hot car ! How the HELL you for get you have your baby in back seat of your car!!!?? This is not your damn coat
you're leaving in a hot car it a baby !
