I got my Naida V UP's in like 2008 as I recall, and Ive run em hard sinc the day I got them. I work outside all day, often around dirty loud machinery, dusty condition, in the rain....These things have held up beautifully.

A while back I noticed a loss in power, and its gotten slightly worse over time, now they have started doing this weird thing where they will both "beep" into the low volume mode (clarity in noisy conditions), on their own...then a few seconds later, do the tones where they cycle back up to full output..and I have to readjust the volume again. May not do it for a whole day...then it might do it 3 times in a minute.

Iknow, its time...unfortunately, to put them to rest, and upgrade but Im unsure about the "current" models, I think its called the Q90? Or Q70? It looks smaller, are they just as powerful? When These S models were new, over 95% of my profound hearing loss was restored, and I figure im down to about 50% now...if that.

Was considering sending them off for a good cleaning..Over the years Ive lost my dust and moisture caps and gone whole days "uncorked" not knowing, or not having new ones on hand...and all kinds of stuff im sure has gotten into the mics...

Any suggestions? My tubes are decent, and my molds are in need of replacement again, Im looking at getting some inexpensive bud style to see if the worn molds and tubes are part of my problem, before dropping 150 on new molds, and another 20 on tubes..only to need new aids in the end, along with new molds and tubes again...

Might be worth getting them internally cleaned before spending out on new hearing aids. I had that done and a lot of my problems were solved.

The Naida Q70 UP is equal in terms of it being classed a 'mid range' as your Naida V UP. They are just as powerful.

I just ordered some new tubes and hooks for good measure, I see at Discount Hearing aids, they sell a Phonak Naida S1 Model hearing aid, the range it has looks comparable to my V UP, physically it looks identical.

For 700 dollars its very tempting to try...

Also, fwiw, one of my aids fell into a sink full of water about a year ago...I pulled a stupid and took one out, it slipped..I tried to catch it..it popped into the air and ploop...I got out immediately, the battery was shorted, I put it under a mild hair drier for about 30 minutes (wrapped in a towel, never got more than warm), then 24 hours in my dessicant thing, and the next day it fired right up...didnt give me any trouble at all. I nfact, its the other one thats messing up now...haha

The Naida S I UP has way less features and channels then the Naida V UP. It's a v v basic HA but worth a shot if that's all you can afford. To get the same features and channels as the Naida V UP you need the Naida S V UP. (More channels = better speech in noise)

EDIT - From what I can see, Phonak Naida S I UP doesn't have Sound Recover so if that's something you benefit from with the Phonak Naida V UP, then it'll be worth getting a Phonak Naida with Sound Recover on.

Probably would be a good move to go ahead with new hearing aids, have these serviced to clean them up (oil and grime in there for sure...ew) and use them as back ups.

Mine are.. 9 years old this year- I plan to see if I can get them both serviced (mainly the left one) and bump up the right one (it's never been right since they reset it to default the last time I sent it in !#^#&!) and keep them as back ups.

Went to Audio last year and she had to clean out one of them-- the microphone etc was clogged with dirt & oil....bleech. That may be why it's cycling. It's why my t-coil seems to short out a lot- always the left one...:hmm:

Costco just partnered with Phonak and will be selling them at their stores for a huge discount, just under $1200. Might be worth looking into.

Honestly, both mine were custom setup by the audiologist when new, she did all kinds of things with them, not long after, my left one had to be replaced under warranty, and it was never right again....not as sharp. i dont know what sound recover is, but I never use the little button, I pretty much turn them on in the morning...put them in..bump the volume 2-3 beeps, and roll with it.

I can talk on cell phones, land lines, etc without problems, and non of them activate the T amplifier, so its unused.

Sound recover is a feature to make high frequencies audible as people who are profoundly deaf have cochlear dead regions. You don't need to press your 'button' to have it.

My Naida's acted that way when the microphone covers got dirty. I did not know what was going on and went in with them the audiologist put on new covers in less than two minutes and gave me a kit so I can do it myself. That was the first I was made aware of the little covers over the mikes and that they can get clogged with dirt.

The industrial lifestyle... smiles...

The attached picture will tell you the different between the Naidas.

The Naida S V UP is the same level to your current Naida V UP.

go nuts for the new Naidas!!! (I'm planning on getting those hearing aids since my current one is already 3 and warranty runs out next month) *and yes, my left is profound in the lows.

My Phonak Savias were bought back in 2005 and I have just kept getting microphones and the other thingy replaced after getting in showers with them on etc etc. I try hard not to forget, but there is always that one or two times. I don't use the audiologists to fix, I send them off privately. However, last time I did and I must say the parts are still working although I'm missing a few pieces on the end.

Mine go funny sometimes too and it's all about cleaning them out abit better and then they come right. To keep them dry I put them ontop of my computer modem at night with the door open. An audi told me to do that. Works great.

oh that's a neat idea with the modem lol.

I always use the audiologist because when I send them in to be repaired I never know if the yokels there will reset it or them to factory default- they did that at least once in the last 5 years. So that means having to mess with the audio to get it set back to where it is SUPPOSED to be- big pain in the ass. The right one is still not quite right- it feels too low and I keep wanting to crank it up MORE damnit! lol
