Awesomeness.

FINALLY. I'll be getting my new Phonak Exelia later this afternoon.

I'm far too excited for my own good. I hope I can at least sleep tonight.

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

:D That's good!!!!!

We can all start celebrating tonight, then, right? ;)

 Jamie

JamieLynn- Yup. The drinks are on me! Hehehehehehe

OH MY GOD this hearing aid is awesome...worlds better than the GN ReSound and the other analog one and analog loaner I got. I'm exceedingly happy - everything's fabulous right out the gate. w000000000000000000t. :O :D :O

deafdude1- Responded to your other thread question.

Thanks everyone! I love my Exelia and would highly recommend it as a non-transpositional hearing aid if anyone's in the market for one.

JamieLynn- BJ's!!!!! (a pub/bar down here in Southern Cali - not sure if they have them in your neck of the woods).

Only a few problems I've encountered:

1. When in the car and ultra uber noise starts in from the outside, the hearing aid all of a sudden sounds like a cocoon and I don't hear everything (don't like that)

2. When belting out a tune in the car I like to hear my own voice and match it to the melody (I do pretty well at this by ear actually...and with the new aid music sounds phenomenally great). Unfortunately, the sounds now sound like they're going through high-pitched window blinds (y'know...the horizontal ones) that flap rapidly when I do this.

3. When on the phone every five-ten minutes there is a 3-4 tone beep that sounds on the normal program. Don't like this because I have to be on the phone 30 - 60 minutes at a time for my job and I'd much prefer to use the normal program in all situations.

4. When the radio's on in the car, everything sounds wonderful for about 1 minute or so and then it sounds very cocoon-ish and muffled. I have to cycle between all the programs back to my normal program to get things back to normal again.

That's what I can find wrong on the first day...I realize some of these might be enhancements but to me they're not enhancements if they detract from the normal sound that I hear on an every day basis. I'll bring these up with my audie on the follow-up visit.

I experienced some other sorts of problems. It's normal to need several reprogrammings before the HA(s) come out perfect. Im sure your audiologist can resolve all your problems as well as give you more gain if your HAs aren't maxed out. Youll be amazed how much better you hear! :)

I don't like it either. When I put on my ha's, I alway change program to "music" which is just like analog ha's.

WHY do you think everyone needs more gain!? i don't know how u dont extremely agitate yourself!

Phi4Sius says he hears great with his HA. He's getting plenty of gain in order to be able to achieve this.

He could have normal gain and not maxed out gain to be hearing well! My gains aren't maxed out and I hear pretty well too! Do us all a favor and get over your gain obcession, i can't speak for everyone but personally it's driving me up the wall..you mention the gain in almost every thread and post you've written!

Phi-- are ya still loving them?? Have the problems you had started to subside??

How well a person hears is his or her choice. If you are happy with less gains, that's fine and your choice alone. You have 30db better hearing than me, I would not hear as well as you unless I had 30db more gains than you. There are some other profoundly deaf who are unhappy they aren't recieving enough benefit from HAs so I have the right to offer them advice and share my experience. Thanks.

Ur not getting the fact that maxing out your gains doesn't always mean poof better hearing!

Well said Alicia.

For example, Alicia has a power model of her Verstas but her hearing loss doesn't require the gain that a power model is capable of yet. It is there so she has growing room if/when her hearing deteriorates more.

If we all went around buying hearing aids with the intent of maxing them out right away we would be buying new ones every time our hearing changed!

I would also like point out that hearing aids are not intended to be maxed out! Just because they are capable of it doesn't mean it should be done. My minivan is capable of going 200+ KM an hour, but do drive it that fast because I can and it could be a little faster? No, I don't! Why? Because I recognize that my minivan gives me the best preformance when I drive it at the speed limits and I get the best, most effective, and safest use of it when I am at the prescribed speeds.
